Well, I agree with you. There are liability concerns. I don't even know if the factory sub tank is DOT approved here in the USA.

Just an idea....get a decent roof rack platform and load it up with 4 gallon rotopax fuel containers. I estimate if you dbl stack them you can get at least 32 gallons up there if that is your goal. Mine have not leaked at all.

From the Donkey's mouth. There are two major players in Australia that we have dealt with LRA (Long Range Automotive) and Long Ranger. We did in the past import tanks from both companies but those were for 80 series. The products are good, but install was a major pita. In most cases these are kits designed to up the capacity of a factory removed 2nd tank. So for US trucks in was never plug and play.

We have done one tank on a 200 series and we moved the charcoal canister. It was not easy and there are risks involved with the integrity of the sealed fuel system and the possible codes etc. The customer was fine with that due to the nature of the build we did. We also helped a 2nd owner that bought a tank directly and had it installed to get his system fixed after just such leaks created all kinds of havoc.

You will not find a local company to do a tank on a commercial basis for such a small market. We do a lot of Transferflow tanks in Tundra's. Those are really nice tanks but the extend of testing they did to make it work and the hassles that they have to go through is extensive. They even supply stickers to modify the GVW stuff of the vehicle since they have changed the weight of the truck etc.

So that is in short why we do not get into these tanks anymore.

Thanks for info, Christo.

Any chance that your eventual bumper will handle at least 2 jerry cans?

Factory? That would be the bees knees.

:)

Cost is prohibitive but I've been researching it.

ARB will have their extended Frontier tank out soon for the 200 so I'm anxious to see how it pans out. It's intended for the Aus market so it certainly won't be plug and play for the U.S. market. I've been in touch with the firm that built the tank for the E7 Sherpa II VDJ79, at the time they were the first and only making them for the then new double cab 7x. It's possible they could build a feeder style tank that is inline with the main tank this simplifying plumbing drastically. I run this on my 100 with good results. It's also possible they could do a tank that requires minimal charcoal canister mods... But it would have to be a one-off custom trial & error fit. Options...

We had to use our gas cans this past week after topping at the last possible station in 'civilization'. It was so far isolated it was an extra USD$1.05 per gallon.

I'm ready for an aux tank that works.
