I would also be in. Should there be or is there another thread for this?

Glad this was moved to its own thread. I did not even notice that this was in the other build thread... :-o

It looks like just a matter of relocating the canister
@dtt255 did the install

47 Gallon Long Ranger Aux Tank installation USA 200 series...

I wouldn't call it that straightforward HAHA, sounded even worse than the arb rear w/swings! That's hard to consider for a bolt on top of the types of stock bits that have to be modified on an NA 200.

With that said, I'm also in for an aux tank under the rear cargo area if we can come up with a good alternative. I'm not sure what everyone else are getting but offroad, loaded and just towing an m1101 we're in bad shape.

9.2-.5MPG and usually a range of just about 200mi/320km which is a constant source of stress that I'd like to eliminate.

I suppose "straightforward" is a subjective term :) To me, putting an LS1 in my old 240sx was "straightforward" too.

But relocating the carbon can, adding a hose and drilling a hole doesn't seem all that difficult for the average shade tree mechanic. For someone who's only familiar with oil changes, maybe.

As I said on the ARB rear bumper install thread HAHA - I'd much rather swap an engine than deal with some of these 'bolt ons'.

It's not just the install. It's the cost to buy/ship from Australia...

And that technical support will likely be tough as well.

But damn do I want one!

I talked (well, emailed) Paul at LRA about the 160L tank for a 100 series. The exchange rate helped lower the cost, and they would send via ship.....for abot $275, I pick up at the port facility..... $1675 to the port. As I live close to the port, I seriously considered, but the large tank was too big for my needs, and I set to build my own....

Who is "LRA"? Do you have a contact for them?

After the hassle I have gone through so far, I would have been better off just buying their tannk and modifying it if necessary :(

Plus I would have been able to ditch the jerry cans, which are a hassle in and of themselves

I wonder if Slee or others have considered importing a quantity of them for minor modification and distribution/installation in the US.

Keep also wondering if liability is the problem...

This might be what you guys have been looking for -

Front Runner Sub-Tank

It looks like it is not DOT certified and is for off-road only.

I'm betting that this has a lot to do with why others do not offer tanks in the US...

I think we have reached a conclusion as to why they aren't for sale in the US: The DOT regulation FMCSA 393.67 Regulations Section
It doesn't seem like a difficult test to certify for, but testing costs money and they'd need to make that up in volume.....which the US spec 200 series isn't sold in.

If someone was going to manufacture and sell it here "for off-road use only" there would have to be an air-tight, bullet-proof waiver signed by the purchaser! Can you imagine an accident where there is a fire involved? People would be tripping over themselves to file lawsuits!

There are aftermarket auxiliary tanks sold for FJC and such that are for "offroad use only" in the US so it's not totally crazy. Someone just needs to market one that is ready to go for US spec 200's.

Not DOT approved.....
So, only fill it up and use it before you go off road on a long trip. When you're on the interstate, you can stop as often as you want. If you had this tank on the interstate, you'd just be another trucker with a big gas tank and a big pee bottle......do you really need another nasty habit?

Did you notice that you can pay for this in the USA and they'll get it for you for only $1000 and includes dual fill neck and other things? It's a pretty sweet deal.

Where are these "off road" gas stations? ;)

I suspect that having it even partially filled...and possibly even attached on the street might be illegal without that approval...
If you get away with it...would you be toast in an accident lawsuit?
