Hello,

I have a 1989 FJ62, I am planning to install a diesel engine. I understand that H55F is the best, but I would like to keep auto transmission if at possible.

What auto tranny would work with 1HZ or 1HD-T?

Thanks

I think you can modify the old FJ62 A440F auto. Or the A440F for a 1HZ out of a JDM HZJ7* is probably the best. Part # below. I doubt there is much difference between them
35000-60350A440F (01/1990 - 07/1992)1$7,166.77
35000-60460A440F (08/1992 - 04/1993)

The autos out of diesel 80 series are also an option with a bit more work.

do you happen to know what modifications do I need to make to the A440F out of the FJ62?

Do you happen to know the differences between the two A440Fs?

You would have to change the input shaft at a minimum . I don't know the differences, but it would probably be very minor. You would have to get a list of parts and go through the part numbers.

Input shaft and torque converter front coupler needs to be change
That said I’ve a rebuilt A442 from a 1992 hdj81 sitting here taking up space I put the 1hdt into my 55 and the 81 was hit in the front so I know the tranny is good, prob around 15,000 km on the tranny

If are going 1HD-T or 1HZ getting a hydraulic A442F that came behind 1HD-T in the early HDJ81's would be a way, as Simon suggests above.

This thread deals with putting a 12HT from a 60 series into an FJ80 (came with 3FE/A440) so there "might" be some titbits in there for you as consideration points, even though you are going into a 60.

Would be ideal if you could take a JDM hydraulic A442F that came behind the early 1HD-T's, use the existing transmission mount location on the 60 and place the engine mounts where needed, but my full recollection of what fits, matches and crosses over has moved into the sands of time in this area.

Thank you, I am going to put the A442 with a 1HZ. I think that will be the easiest and fool proof way. I will bother you some questions when I start the process.
