Australian Trayback in my garage

I took the seats over to an upholstery shop today. I decided to go with a light grey cloth interior on the seat faces and color matched marine vinyl on the bolsters. They should be done next week.

Not going to find NOS parts stored away in a garage. I picked up anything the was 45 cab only parts still available right after I bought mine. Those aren't kept in a garage. Believe most door weatherstripping is still available from Toyota. Bought some a few years back for my 70 FJ40. My 45 is getting later style doors.

My spare tire carrier was a hacked up mess. Located the later winch style. Handle behind the seat was there on the early ones except was there to turn the engine over.by hand. A little short than the one for the spare tire winch but longer one fits fine.

Quick update.
I got the seats back from the upholstery shop and ordered some lap belts from ebay. i also bought some used Tacoma steel wheels and tires off CL to use until I decide it's time to get what i want. Registered as historic vehicle with classic insurance, $200/year for full coverage. I then drove it over to the DMV for the vin inspection and after about an hour, I drove off with a clean title, plates and registration, whoot!!

Seat pics.

Shout out to @Living in the Past or anyone else that may know.

My fj45 has no heater at this time. There appears to have been one at one time, maybe aftermarket? I say aftermarket because there are no provisions for a blower motor in the engine bay on the firewall like all the other fj4x I have seen nor is there any sort of block off plate for the air to have passed through. The picture below is in the cab where I traditionally see the factory heater. There is a block off plate there but no way for any kind of elbow to be installed in the engine bay to feed air through that hole. Could this block off plate been the original source of air for a self contained heater fan in the cab?

Your biggest issue is that is a RHD. Pretty easy to install a factory heater if you have all the parts. That 84 HJ47RV had a RHD heater. The duct between the blower motor and heater coil had a A/C evaporator. Didn't pick it up since I didn't have anything RHD. I have all three version of the LHD heaters.

I don't see how I could install a blower without cutting a big hole in the firewall. Do you know if any of these were built with no heater fan? I.e. Like just a radiant heater?

Thank you, Phil. I will take you up on that. I am not sure there is an OEM solution for what I am looking at.

Personally would cut a hole a little larger and graft in the section from another cruiser cruiser. Non heater models were made into the eighties in some markets. Anything added later was aftermarket. While not impossible never hear of anything self contained offered after the factory heater was introduced. May still have sold the Nippon-Denso that was used in earlier cruisers. Not sure if those were installed on the production line or later. Those only required a couple holes for the mounting bolts and two holes for the heater tubes. Nothing that was like one you have. Have a few different aftermarket heaters and none have a hole in the firewall like that. If your looking for a heater factory is the way I would go. Maybe Steve (@Saddletramp ) is planning another trip. Just delivery to his hotel and your set. just wish I knew that before. Instead still waiting for my parts to get here.

But seriously would consider OEM parts. While not cheap, shipping thru the mail is a option. Parts aren't that big. Container is a slow process as I'm finding out

It will be in or close to the locker with your gray CSC shirt from @Otter

Funner, I'm going to enjoy this journey watching you "bring her back" . love 45's in FJ 's and S&W

Cool truck. If your interested in adding a lift, I have some 3 inch lift Alcans springs I plan to sell. I will make you a hell of a deal.

I appreciate it. No idea if that is in the cards, probably not. Probably will stick with more of a stock look, but who knows. I will pm you if that is a direction I think I will go.

Not the best look, but not terrible with the Tacoma steelies. I needed something cheap and safe to drive on. The OEM 16" split steel wheels had pretty old 7.5 16 tires that I couldn't trust on the road.

That bed would make a nice platform for a roof top tent(?)

I posted pictures of a couple different Toyota Aluminum rims on my 45 in the what did you do to Land Cruiser etc etc thread. For the direction I thinking of going with my 45 the factory split 16" rims would probably fit best. Not sure I can do it. Like the 91/92 80 series wheels. Posted pictures of them October last year I think. Remember still had a cast on wrist and doing one hand tire changes.
Has the newness of the truck worn off and moved from the garage to the backyard and a tarp?

It sure would, maybe just a good spot to sleep off the ground and under the stars.

I remember those pictures, I'll have to go back and look. The newness hasn't worn off. It really is just the urgency to get it through the inspection, title, license and registration process that pushed me initially. Now that it's legally in my name and drivable I can slow down and work on it as my time and this nasty hot/humid weather allow.
I did find good reproduction window seals for the corner glass and rear window, very happy that wasn't a bigger problem.

I need to do some work,on the brakes, replace soft lines, master cylinder, etc. Wondering if the OEM lines are the same as the same year fj40 or if they were unique to the fj45. Also were they different on each side in LHD VS RHD, the same, or just reversed in LHD and RHD. Same question for rear. Got some digging to do.
I was able to get all 4 wheels to lock up when I tried to do so, left some nice skid marks on the 51 frontage road:hillbilly::steer:
