All,

August's event is a day trip (August 11) at Pleasure Island, either Carolina Beach at Freeman Park or at the State Recreational area at Fort Fisher.

There is an access fee for both areas to drive on the beach, and will be a little busier than in OBX.

For those wanting to make a little more of the trip, camping is available at Carolina Beach State Park, or multiple hotels in the area...

Who's in?

I WISH. I really want to camp in the troopy on a beach. August is a ****acious month for me.

Yah beat me on the post up.

You know we will be there.... most likely not in the cruiser though.... actually 100% not in the cruiser..... it has been relegated to just the car show for the rest of the year (needs lots of work)

HAMOM time...

I'm in. Also I'll be going there periodically over the next couple of months. Just to let everybody know, the Ft Fisher beach is heavily patrolled so if you have a fishing rod you must have a fishing license and absolutely no alchoholic beverages. The rangers will pour out anything you have, even unopened bottles. It's nice to drive on though, hardly anybody goes there. Freeman park at the north end is more of a free for all. Just don't act stupid and the cops won't bother ya. But don't plan on bringing a trailer of any kind, they are not allowed Conditions on the beach can be miserable at times for camping so if you want a nice protected area to camp there is Carolina Beach State Park campground where I've camped regularly throughout the years. It has nice shady campsites and is only a few minutes freeman park. Carolina Beach also has a nightime boardwalk and amusement area that'd be fun for any kids. I'm pretty familiar with the rules at all places in the area. This trip will be a lot of fun.

I'll bring my 3 longboards for anyone interested in trying their hand at it.

May also bring the kayaks, the Fort Fisher area is great for kayaking especially when the tide is right and the river overflows the seawall, but that would be a day all to itself...

Hello guys,
I just got the family to Wilmington this past February (came down from Vermont). I've been meaning to catch up with this crew since. Seems like this would be the time to do it.
I'll probably be in the 4Runner, because the 44 needs a new HG.
Anything I should know about the group ( dues, trail work requirements, etc. )?

HAMOM time...

Yes most likely.... there will also be a big one towards the end of the year, begining of the next if all goes well.

Right now, the most important things to make it trail worthy are
shocks (needs new)
Brakes needs new MC and Booster.... or the 4 low will overpower them on the trail
Wire up ARB compressor to the lockers
Desmog..... EGR is gummed up something fierce
extract broken bolt in the thermo housing
oil leak in front and rear diffs

Between working on the mercedes, work and having to do everything for andrea while her hand healed up I have had no time to even look at some of the things.

Actually Quniton has been wanting to do a HAMOM also .... hmmmm got my gears spinning for next month.

Yes the new guy has to bring a whole pig so we can cook it on the new cooker! Welcome to onsc!

Welcome man! PM incoming...

Depending on orientation for school, I'm also interested. Been down here for 2 years and always meant to meet up with the group. I'm starting my PhD in the fall and will be in the area for a while, so I'm also interested in joining! Please let me know what I need to do become a member.

Just got back from Freeman Park (North End) with the Hundy. This past weekend the weather was ideal, mid 80's during the day and mid 60's in the evening. Partly cloudy to clear skies and it wasn't as crowded as I originally thought. A lot of vehicles got stuck trying to get on the beach and there were a couple of trouble spots; but my pretty much stock 100 series was able to make it out there without airing down / in 4wd low. Aired down on the way out and that helped it a lot.

For Freeman Park it's 20 dollars a day. I got an annual pass in March for unlimited use for just 60. Kind of fun to camp, with Brew Thru delivering beer, dominoes / papa john doing pizza runs in modified FJ Cruisers, and some surplus 6x6 military trucks doing firewood, fuel, and ice runs up and down the beach. Plenty of porta johns and neighbor campers were all really nice. Not too rowdy. I think the major rule were no trailers, fire must be in metal container, and no glass containers. But one can drink alcohol. Plus dogs are allowed (must be on 6ft leash). My pup and friend's dog really enjoyed it.

Waiting to get onto the beach. Backed up since a lot of folks didn't buy a pass before hand. Once we got closer the right hand lane was for folks with a pass and it went a lot quicker.

Gorgeous man! If you want to become a member, make sure to let me know:D

We took Moonshine down to Carolina Beach / Kure Beach / Ft. Fisher area on Saturday. Had an AWESOME time chilling on the beach and made $45 pulling people out of the sand:lol:

Haha, that's awesome. Where did you get a life guard bouy, lol? My friends and I were camped round marker 17 dune side in Freeman Park Sat through Sun AM. Saw a bunch of FJ Cruisers, a couple of 80 series, 4Runners, 1 other 100 series and a GX470. Looks like the north end was a lot more crowded than Ft. Fisher / Kure Beach. I will def. need to check out both next time. Are dogs allowed at both beaches?

Please let me know how I can sign up!

Dogs are allowed at both but Ft fisher enforces the leash law. I tied Deacon to the bumper with a long lead.
Johnny, Ive never seen someone have so much trouble pulling people out of the sand.:p Nice Hasselhoff impression!

Buoy was found in Uwharrie forest by Jason and I last December. It's been riding on my front bumper since :D

:flipoff2: That pickup was soooo stuck it was not even funny. He must have let it sit there for a solid 2 hours before realizing that his truck was stuck as hell.

Looks like you opted for Fort Fisher....

Good choice!
