The attached pdf file has good info on how to avoid getting your ATM card info stolen from ATM machines, fueling stations and other KIOSK type places.

Pretty scary.

Ash - thanks for passing this along. It's good info, and I agree - it's pretty scary.

as most of you know, Jill and I had a huge chunk of $ disappear out of our account recently. we got it resolved quickly and it was traced back to a restaurant in Abq. a little different than this atm type scam, but it is a real problem/threat. I had heard of them being put on redbox.

Glad you got it resolved.

Hey bionic, did your card troubles have anything to do with Target? There has been a Target or Target online issue for awhile. Just curious.

the credit union told me the bad guys use target often for some reason. but the card info was stolen when I handed the card to a waitress here in Abq. still don't know which restaurant it was, but we have our suspicions.

When I was in Europe, the restaurants had portable credit card readers that the waiters would bring to your table when it was time to pay. Your credit card never left your sight.

An article I read about this: the wait staff was bribed into (or friendly with the bad buys) carrying a second card reader. One for the business, the other for simply recording personal data.

It always make me nervous when I go someplace and the person says my first swipe didn't go though and they ask for my card back to try again. I make sure they use the same machine as the first time.
