So I was reading some posts about Power steering because mine is leaking, not super bad just enough to make a mess. I saw that People are saying to put ATF in your PS pump not PS fluid I have been running PS fluid Because the PO was, could this be my Problem ? And do I now need to replace all my O rings ? It doesnt make noise just leaks a little. Thanks

John

If it's leaking, probably changing to ATF will not solve your problem. Most likely you will have to rebuild :wrench::wrench:or replace the pump.

If your pump is leaking you want to get on that. It can leak into the smog pump (which sits right below it) and seize it. Smog pumps are ridiculously expensive. If your gear box is leaking, you can send it to West Texas Off-Road to get rebuilt.

rebuild/replace before it destroys your smog pump as mentioned. You will want to run ATF fluid in it.

X infinity on the smog pump vulneribility. ATF, spec. Dextron II is the usual brew. If you are lucky, the leak might be tidied up by replacing the O-ring where the reservoir mounts to the pump body and/or the O-ring that is on the long mounting bolt on the front of the unit.

Or there is a seal for the front shaft.

In extreme cases the bushing in the front of the pump can wear. I sourced a replacement bushing, but did not get it installed, so I cannot render an opinion.

If a new pump price is:eek: prohibitive... go Saginaw. About $50 for a rebuilt one with lifetime warranty (Autozone, Etc.), a pulley out of a junk yard maybe $10-20, and if you are good fabricating, you can make the pump mount. I used the Toyota factory mount on mine. Or you can order a mount from JT Outfitters for $144 . Never ordered from them, but I know there's people out there that can tell you about ordering from them. If your truck is not desmoged, you cannot use my "redneck" PS mount because one of the bolts go into one of the holes that belongs to smog pump mount.

DEXRON

Yep...Dexron III ATF.....I'm on my second rebuilt PS pump - the first reman leaked worse than the one that it had replaced....WTF

If you have the money I would go with a New OEM....Man-It-Aint-Cheap or CruiserParts.com....
