At This Price Who Is Selling Their 200?

Not planning on listing mine anytime soon, and no motivation to sell either. Its probably worth $10k more (realistically) than I paid for it 3 years ago, when I was expecting (planning for) it to be $10-15k less... Not bad if you think about it as a $20-25k win.

I'd argue that the real question is not whether you'd sell your LC now for $X, but rather will you look back without regret for not selling it at these prices when you had the chance? The market will change, probably return to norms in, say, 2-3 years -- when there will be LX600s passing by or the new Sequoia catching our glance... will the bloom be off the rose for these V8 LCs - or will the bond be even stronger?

My hunch is that used prices for LC200's will come down from the current crazy numbers in the next year-ish, but remain strong for quite some time.

Right now, just about everything is expensive; even used beaters are selling for more than they should be. G-wagon prices are really nuts right now - some dealers have been charging $100K (or more) above MSRP. Supposedly all G-wagon order allocations are currently spoken for with customer reservations through ~2025, so those prices will probably remain crazy for a while. I guess Mercedes did something right with their 2019 major refresh / redesign (they still call it a W463 chassis, even though it's pretty much all new - it would be roughly equivalent to Toyota still calling the LC200 the 80 series).

I met this guy in Tennessee near Nemo. I will say killer rig and how I would build one almost.

Just got my first and probably last 200. Paid 40k for a 2009 with 120k miles on it. It’s my DD and I sold my 2017 GMC SLT for 29k a few weeks ago. I live in the mountains and drive it everyday. I love it my wife likes it. Not selling it anytime soon and hopefully never. Im 50 and plan on driving it for the next 10-15 years in our mountains on and off road to every trout steam I can find. I had been looking for a LC for a few months and when this popped up I hesitated at the price then drove it and was all in. BUT everything is for sale at some price point.

How do you think it comes to the Gm?

Am I safe to assume you mean compares? The GMC was an awesome machine when I first got it. Pulled my boat no problem, had great gas mileage when I lived in florida, not so much here. Mileage here for GMC avg about 12-13, the LC avg about 9-11but I’m on 33” tires and live on a Mtn. The GMC drive like a Cadillac, smooth ride and smooth engine/tranny and fast and stable cruising on hwy speeds up to 85 mph. But since I hit 75k GMC was having gremlin Mech issues like touch screen, AC compressor AND if the battery lost any voltage the computers went haywire. The LC drives like an LC and I have a local independent Toyota shop that has multiple LC clients and the owners of the shop own LC so I’m confident I’ll be able to keep it humming well past the GMC. Only thing I miss on the GMC is the apple car play. Cheers!

No plans to sell; if a ridiculous offer came forth for a 2016 with paint chips, leather wear, 87,000 miles, and scratches on it.......maybe. Doubtful, tho. It's finally to the point where I want to mod it, and don't want to start over again.

I guess I look at it this way, I would've paid less for my 18 last year than I just did, but I also wouldn't have sold my 19 Golf R for the same amount as I paid for it. So while I maybe paid more for the 200, I got more for my Golf R so it equals out.

Yep! Local dealer has a used Lime Rush 4Runner on the lot listed at $70k!! That's only $12k LESS than I bought my '21 HE just last January.

I seen this on a trailer Saturday afternoon. The semi had pulled in to unload some rentals at Sunnyside.

It caught the eye of myself and the salesmen at the dealership. $70k is ridiculous.

It’s a platform from 2003. 99% of buyers dont realize it 😂

Paid $26k new for my 07 V8 and it’s still a better truck…..because of the 2UZ

I paid $37k for my '16 T4R Trail Premium w/KDDS, and last January, traded it to Eric on my '21 LC HE for $29k with 35k miles. Sure, I could have got a lot more for it a few months later, but then I wouldn't have bought the LC for $83k, either.

I see a lot of 2020-1 HE's for sale on dealer lots for $110-130k. I don't see a lot of them actually selling though. I just bought my low mileage 2018 200 for a decent price, wasn't worth it to spend almost 50% more for a HE
I wouldn’t trust many of the dealers actually having them on the lot. Before I bought my ‘20 Heritage, I called a lot of these same dealers who didn’t actually have one to sell me and all had excuses such as “it just sold” or “give us your number and we’ll find one for you”. One dealers really pissed me off and said they had it and I drove an hour out of my way to find out they didn’t. The idiot tried to sell me a used Sequoia instead.

I'm selling my 200 and its been crickets out here. Just dropped the price from $84k to $79k as well.

Did you post in the classifieds section?

The problem with modifications is that it limits the pool of buyers. As an enthusiast I would have loved to have found someone who had done all the work up front and jumped right into a built vehicle without waiting and spending time and money doing it myself. OTOH as an enthusiast I'm particular about the mods I do/like and for instance I just don't care for the Dobinson's bumpers so IMO those would be pretty much zero value to me as I'd want to replace them with something slimmer. And for people who aren't enthusiasts, the mods may be a negative value unfortunately.

Good luck

Craigslist has lost a lot of users to Facebook and other platforms when they started charging. I used to find cars there all the time but rarely even look anymore. You will have better luck here or Autotrader, etc.

for sure. I just posted it up in the 200 series classified page here. Autotrader might be a good option as well!

Yeah, you're definitely right. I'm sure there is the right buyer out there somewhere. Just gotta find them is all. Appreciate the insight!

You may or may not want to do this, depending on what it adds up to, but a list of the cost of mods is helpful. Obviously for you, the labor was probably free. So letting the buyer know they are getting a deal on it because of that would possibly entice a buyer. I'd guess the cruiser itself is probably in the $60kish range, so I'd focus on why the rest of it is worth 20k.

Other factors with modifications:

- Even if the parts are quality parts, the quality of the installation is unknown.
- Mods can imply that the vehicle has had some hard use that may not be reflected in the general cosmetic appearance.

Honestly I probably got my 200 because the seller didn't list it in an appropriate place (like here, FB Marketplace or Craigslist) and it also has a Safari snorkel on it. I'm not thrilled with snorkel but the rest of it was so clean I was willing to look past it
