I know I should have posted in the 80 registry first in order to introduce myself.. but it just slipped thru the cracks. Anywho.. we purchased a '97 LX450 back in March w/105k. It was serviced from the beginning according to Toyota's service schedule.. so really nice shape. Drove it for about a week or two and then parked in our quasi-shop.. aka dedicated workshop garage. Intention being to go completely go thru it to identify any worn parts.. lube it up with fresh fluids.. gut the cooling system and a few other bits and make sure our 18 year old girl is spot on for future adventures.

This process has brought up a question. I removed all of the AT cooler hoses.. including the radiator to replace them. Nothing was wrong with 'em.. did it just because. Since I pulled everything out awhile back before my real job interfered.. I have drawn a blank as to the routing of the hoses. I get the ones from the outside cooler and those to radiator solved. The two other hoses.. one from the radiator and one from the trans terminate at the fixture that breachs the front bulkhead. I know I have a 50/50 chance to get it right. I used the Toyota parts diagram and organized them as such. But I am not totally positive it is correct.. second guessing myself. Might not make a difference.. but then again.

I have attached a photo as to how I have routed them. So if anyone can give me a thumbs up or down would be great. If too hard to decipher the photo.. standing at the front of the LC.. the hose on the left (upper tube) goes to the trans. The tube on the right (lower) utilizes the 90' factory bent hose and goes to the radiator. Yes / No

Thanks.. Zonker

If the top hose in the photo connects to the top of the cooler then it's correct because that is the return line.

Hey Baldilocks..

Thanks so much for the quick response. I just verified.. the top starts at engine.. runs to the top tube on the bulkhead.. on thru and to the top of front AT cooler. Sounds like I might have it. Darn it.. the old brain just does not remember stuff like it used to. A mere 5 years ago I could take something apart and remember 6 months later what the order was. This time I was stumped by TWO hoses!

Chem Trails...!!!!!!!!!

Searching for an answer to my question. Search pulled up this thread, so thought I may as well use it to get my answer. (I tried search first !!!)

I am doing a V8 swap, and wanted to confirm my understanding of the routing of the AT cooler system

Am I correct in understanding that the routing is:
in to the radiator on the PS side
Out on the DS of the rad, and in to the BOTTOM of the AT cooler
Out the top of the AT cooler and back to the AT

( it's the flow through the AT cooler that seems counter intuitive )

BINGO! ;)

This is why I always take photos of everything I might touch before taking it apart nowadays. Cheap insurance so that I don't waste time when my brain farts and I can't remember how something went together!
