I’m in the middle of a TB job (the first I’ve done). 170k. Going well, but there’s a lot of oily crud on the PS of the front of the engine. I don’t know if you can see in the photo, but where the flat TB cover and the serp belt tensioner bolt up next to the TB idler. You can see some on the TB tensioner, although I might have wiped that off pre-photo.
My best guess is the cam seal (the oil I can see looks like motor oil). If that’s it, I suppose I can either ignore it and continue, or get the truck towed to a shop/dealer. I don’t see any leakage around the valve cover. The TB components are dry as a bone, FWIW.
So I’m wondering what people think it is, and what they would choose to do about it.
