Primex 700-15, this tire is one heavy...........if you have any thoughts about mounting them yourself..............don't. Pay the money and have someone do it. The tread depth in the center is 19/32", immediately off the center the tread gets deeper...........hard to explain but when they're worn I'd expect them to look like a NDT.

I'm not holding my breath for Eshan's repos. I going to sell off vehicles until my hubcaps and vehicles count match The vehicles seem to be easier to come by. Even the 16" skinny wheels weren't as hard as hubcaps to find.

I have an email into Stazworrks to see if they'll make a rim to mimic the 25 rim look but be a 16 x 6 or 7.

After much searching for a vintage look, I think I have narrowed it down to two tires, either of which I will be happy with.

I really like the tires Jim got, and he seems to like them, but seeing as how this restoration might not be a big trail rig, I might go with the less aggressive truck tire below, which kind of looks like some of the cruiser tires pictured in the owner's manual...both are the correct 700-15...any thoughts???

Wow, Jim, you've really done your homework looking for the old bias skinny pizza cutters! Gotta love 'em! I saw some reference to Coker tire earlier in the thread but just thought I'd mention it in case you/others hadn't looked. I've checked Universal Tire too, looks like roughly the same offerings as Coker.

Has anyone found a source for Armstrong Tru-Tracs? Or Dick Cepek's Radial X-T version that was available in the '80s (one size fit 'em all, baby, 32x11.50x15, take 'em or run Gumbo Monster Mudders, also recently discontinued IIRC)? I had a set of X-Ts on my J**opps, probably ought not admit that sordid tidbit from my misspent youth ... Anyway, they were great tires with the right (now retro) look. A Gates Commando would be cool too, not that I've tried to find them, but they're probably unobtainium also.

So, any update on the Trakmasters? They're immensely cool!

Well, the Cooper and Multi-Mile/Cordovan were both running $120-$130 with no dickering..........special order. I'm cheap. I don't agree that a second tier/generic bias ply should cost as much as a first quality radial in about the same size.

So I went with these, Primex Trakmaster 700-15, 30.1" OD. $80/ea shipped. I'll let you know what they look like. Yes, they're Chinese.

Oh, I couldn't afford the X-Ts either without some serious saving, scraping, etc. but they really were worth the wait. Good in mud, sand, quiet on the street, wish they were still available!

Love to see those Sears tires if you find a pic. I think they were "All-Traction" or something like that, right?

Bet you remember these old soldiers! I'm cheap too, and ya can't beat free (for the asking in the case of the L78-15 Sears jobbies on the left but I'm down to only one so ...). The OEM Dunlops ran me $15 each on stock mini and Cruiser rims. These are for my '76 stocker.

Here's the Sears tire, I thought they were called Gaurdsman traction or something, aroiund 31" tall. Of course at the same time I scored a brand new Dunlop RK3 off the shelf at the local tire shop. The Armstrong Norseman was my favorite, I believe they were N78-15, tall skinnies...........

Armstrong Norsemans were a good tire from what I remember. The Cepek Fun Countries look like a pretty close copy other than the DC sidewall treatment in place of the A, but that kills the nostalgia aspect for me.

That Sears tire isn't familiar, but I bet it was good in mud. Funny how far we've come, isn't it? Back in the day a 31x10.50 was fairly big and full size rigs were running 33s, 35s being max available.
