Chevy front axle with rotors and calipers. 6 lug. 3:08 ratio. Differential is on the passengers side (right side). Spring pad center to spring pad center measures 32 in. Lok out to lok out is 78 in. Lug to lug is 67½ in. These axle assembly's fit 73-91 4x4 Blazer, 73-87 4x4 Chevy and GMC Truck, and 73-88 4x4 Chevy and GMC Suburban 10 Series. Unused in crate.

10 series would be k10 aka 1/2 ton. Looks like a 10 bolt to me.

Looking @ the cover, 10 bolt. The 10 bolt and 44 are similar in strength. Unless you need/want the width, I'd stay with the Cruiser axle. You can get a set of 30 spline axles from Bobby for the Cruiser axle for a couple of hundred more than the 10 bolt is going for. (not including the cost of shipping the 10 bolt) The Cruiser will be a lot stronger than the 10 bolt at that point. If you wanted to beef the 10 bolt, you are looking at CTMs and Chromo shafts and that's a ton of coin for 10 bolts.

30 splines at differential side gears, 30 spline (upgraded) at birf. Factory birf splines is 27.

It's not only important to analyze how large a dia. shaft you can run, but the weakness of other components, such as steering knuckles. And, I really have no first hand experience w/ the D44 or 10 bolt open knuckles, just something to think about.

On another note, ARB makes an off the shelf 35 spline Air Locker for the D44. Not so for an LC diff, you gotta have a machinist rebroach out an RD33 for the LC application to get a 35 spline inner shaft.

Lastly, if you have driveline issues or you wanna get your driveshaft outta the rocks, there's a HP Dana 44 out of Fords, but you'd have to retube the diff to the other side for your LC drivetrain. Or, you can get 5.89's for D44's, LC's only go to 5.29.

gm 10 bolt 8.5

THe one in the picture is in fact the 8.5" GM 10 bolt (not the Dana) the Dana 44 is not all it is thought to be by many. They are not really any better then the GM 10 bolt (if you put 30 spline inners on the 10 bolt) I would rather have a cruiser diff and put in chromoly birfield eliminator kit. It swapping to something else, might as well go with something bigger like a D60 or I really like the 03+ dodge ram AAM 9.25 front end (hipinion, 33 spline axles, beefy)

If you're running a non LC tcase (driver drop) & don't mind unit bearing hubs/ balljoints & a lack of locker/ gear selection, okay. I do like the diff/ u-joint flange mount in the AAM versus the D60's straight u-joint connection. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother when the aftermarket is monstrous for D60's.
