Are the engine hoist hooks on a 3FE compatible with a 2F?

Just as the title says. I need to pull my engine/tranny/tcase this weekend, and just remembered that my engine is missing the hooks. A friend with an FJ62 said he might loan me his. Will they work?

As a side note, will I need any special tools to separate the transmission from the bellhousing? I need to swap the whole transmission/transfer case combination, then put it all back into my rig.

The hooks should be compatible if not identical. It's dark at the moment or I could go out and check.

Nothing special needed as far as separating the transimission from the bellhousing. Grab a ratchet and 19mm socket and pull the 4 bolts.

They are pretty different.

The front 3FE hook is on the opposite side of the engine and bolts to/through the airpump bracket. Completely different than the 2F setup. IIRC it is secured by the front two headbolts (which are longer than the others). You might be able to install the front 3FE hook on a 2F though.

The rear hook is also on the other side of the engine than the 2F. I can't remember right now if it will actually bolt nto a 2F. I *think* that it might, but I'm at the house and don't have one here to check.

Mark...

Heres how the hooks looked on my old 3F.
I think it will wok as the general arrangement of bolts will be the same

Went out and checked (in the light) and the 3FE hooks will not work. As Mark said the front hook attaches to the air pump bracket, although not through the head bolts but with a couple of 14mm bolts. The rear hook bolts to the side of the head and the 2F head lacks the appropriate holes for the mounting of this hook. You can see this fairly well in roscoFJ73's photo. Guess you'll have to use some other hooks.

I used a longer bolt with large washer snugged down on the V8 install and it worked great. If you can't find the hooks specifically a longer bolt and washer setup will probably do the trick.

Double check to make sure the washer will not go through the opening in the chain and you should be safe.

**warning** this was my first engine install so use caution with my advice
:)
