Are mods really necessary for dirt roads?

It's not about the need for a locker, I never use mine. It's about not getting stuck because you broke on an easy section of trail. The front diff has a problem, mine broke in a very mild obstacle. Lots of them have broken in icy parking lots etc. There is a definite design flaw.

The failures reported on this site represent only a small part of the total number.

If you want to roll the dice, like I did, be prepared to do the field fix.

I hear you. I guess I am one of those that prefers to roll the dice. If it blows... it blows.

I hope it works out for you. Just in case do your home work, it's fairly easy to get the truck rolling in 2WD if you have the correct tools and knowledge. If you stop and take the proper steps you can save the diff center section housing.

I'm almost afraid to drive the 100 after reading this thread.......better save up for an 80.....;)
