are 91-92's not desirable and a question about lockers...

A 40/55/60 isn't a racer either. Back in '98 I wasn't seeing any nice, stock, ready to go, 40s for that kind of money. My guess in that in 10 years they will be more $$.

No probs with my 91. In fact I love it and most stylish and classy 4x4 I've ever been in. It Won't win you a 0 - 65 race on the freeway but when in sand, dirt, mud and no pavement areas it will crawl from A to B with zero complaints! I've had jeeps, suzuki's, Broncos, and an 85 4 runner but none come close to just how impressive my 91 is! If the price is right on that 91 and because your other choice is a Chevy buy the 91 and never look back. "Let's go places"!!!!!

Regarding the parts for the 91's becoming scarce. What parts are we talking about? All of them or a specific part of the engine? I was looking on Rock Auto and they seemed to have a rather extensive list for every part of the vehicle. Plus, toyota would still have access to them, all be it for a premium price correct?

I will admit I'm not knowledgable about the parts supply but that is a major concern.

Thanks for all the replies.

if CDan says the parts are getting scarce, you should believe him - there isn't a more encyclopedic parts shaman out there

Nice thing about the 3FE is it doesn't blow HG's left and right.

Until you need engine parts......Simply an observation. No more,no less.

Only stuff you don't get are some of the EFI components.

All tune up, internal head and internal engine components are still available.

Not saying it's the smartest/most expedient route, but analogous to a Delancy route!

I'd consider who these two are.

Toyota OEM parts might be scarce but I'm sure you can get what you need at Napa. I know, heaven forbid you run aftermarket parts....

I have an ARB locker and 4.88's in my 91 and have never had a problem with the rear axle. My truck goes pretty much wherever I point it.

Do what us blokes in Aus do, remove 3fe, drain oil, remove old anchor from boat and attach 3fe to anchor chain/rope.
Drop in LS1 and voila problem solved.

^^^^^ That. Gotta love the Aussies for engine swaps!

The aftermarket support for these is pretty limited. A lot of stuff has to be sourced from the dealer and usually has to be ordered in.
EGR items are getting hard to find.

A 5.3/4l60 can be had for around $1500 if you look around. And with 150,000 miles on the engine you will have plenty of time to source one and all the related stuff. Problem solved.
So they don't come equipped with lockers. There is a good aftermarket for front and rear if you decide you need one. Problem solved.

It's a constant discussion on the 40 or 60/62 forum with people either pulling out V8s and putting 2Fs back in or pulling the Fs and putting 350s in and which is better. I think a stock FJ80 will still dust a stock 60. 40/55/60/62 didn't come with lockers (or full float rear) either (here) and they put them in.
