The 8,000 pound capacity of the VR8000 might be a little light for use on a Land Cruiser. May be worth the investment to go larger.

The 8000 would be ok on a wrangler or something light. I once read when choosong a winch, find the weight of your vehicle in lbs,x2 (or more) and apply it to the winch poundage. A lexus would be 6000lbs? So a 12000lb winch would be the minimum.

I'd agree that twice the weight would be nice to have. But I've seen the minimum stated as 1.5x - so 9000#. You can always use a snatch block and set up a double line pull to increase your capacity if needed.

1.5x + is a good guide.

Adding a block will double your power but also halfs your line speed.

Vehicles rarely get lighter as they are built.

It also depends on how you wheel. Light expo stuff and an 8k very well would work fine. Deep mud and I'd go 12k. Many winch scenarios don't use much power at all to recover, but you still want the extra power available when you need it.

No recovery points on the ARB bumpers. Slee and Ironman do have them though.

Hi All:

I would agree, a 100 Series Land Cruiser (aka LX470) is a heavy beast. Except for occasional, light extractions, the 8K rated electric winch will be overloaded. A 10K recovery winch would be a better choice.

Alan

Hi All:

Are you sure about this? Every ARB bull bar I've seen has a pair of tabs for mounting "D" shackles to for recovery.

Alan

I've seen the 100 series Deluxe and Sahara and they don't have any recovery points at all.
