ARB Outback Drawers question (3 Viewers)

I'm considering adding these to my rig - but how easy are they to uninstall and take out? Do they clip in to the seat tie downs?

This is also my daily driver and on occasion I need the 3rd row seats as well as the room to haul stuff from Lowes etc.

I'd love to put these in for wheeling and expedition trips but take them out for daily city life.

I asked the same question and was told that they weren't something that you wouldn't want to take in and out very often... maybe once per year if that. They're not quick to get in and out and they probably wouldn't stand up well to be installed/uninstalled frequently.

A friend used to have them in his LC. He took it out a couple times for family trips but ended up buying another SUV
For family trips as he hated moving it so much. He has since sold the LC and built the heck out of a Taco from what I understand but he is no longer local to me as he moved for work.

just build a simple platform with rubbermaid containers that slip in underneath it.

Agreed. I built my own and grew tired of removing and replacing them real quickly. Now they are drawers under the bed in our guest room.

I just installed the outback drawers earlier this year. I thought I might pop them in and out as needed, but after installing them I now know this isn't practical. The drawers are bolted to the truck using the captive nuts (I think this is the term?) that were used by the seat anchors. To get to those bolts you have to take the drawers apart. Plus if you have the trim kit, the trim kit would need to come off. It can be done, it's just not at all convenient.

I imagine, if you don't fasten the two drawers together, it would be fairly easy to pull out. And if you don't install the trim kit, it would be even easier. Something like this...

1) Remove 8 screws on top platform. (correction: 8 screws)
2) Slide drawer forward and then unbolt from seat anchors.
3) Pull up and out, one side unit at a time

I'm actually thinking about just doing one drawer in one side so that may work out nicely. I may have to try it. And if that doesn't work I can just sell at a good price on here and fab my own quick release design.

I run a single drawer w/trim kit. I just took a look at it and think I could probably remove it in less than 5 minutes... not including time to clear out the drawer.

Can you still use the 3rd row seat on the other side? I routinely need seating for 6, and have considered going the 1-drawer route.

One drawer, no side kit = easy uninstall. And the side kits not that hard, just a bit more tedious.

Could also do two stacked, if you need the storage.

Might get some rubbing on the solo 3rd row seat.

One would be plenty of room for all my normal tools, spare coils/fan belt, etc, and would be fine even if it was tight/rubbed against it. With just one, I could still put other things on top of it, such as luggage for road trips (secured of course).

I only need it to be a family vehicle for a few more years, then I will decide whether I will keep it, and finish building it, or get a Troopy and build that.
