ARB lockers - air tank size recommendations

I have front and rear ARB lockers in my 40, the previous owner had a 5 gallon tank mounted to be filled with the ARB compressor. It was way too large for the ARB compressor so I have removed it. I am at a cross road of doing two things. Either just eliminate the tank completely or install a 1.5 or 2 gallon tank. Do you guys have a recommendation for a good tank size to use with the ARB compressor? I believe I just have the basic compressor in my rig, not one of there higher end units. It would be nice to have some air for filling tires, assuming the ARB compressor is not powerful enough to run air tools?
 
I have ARB lockers front and rear in my 40. I just use the little itty bitty tank that came with ARB compressor. When I'm on the trail and have the compressor on, it will run for a few seconds every 20-30 minutes to keep the little tank up to pressure; more often when I am using the lockers.

The ARB compressor is in no way up to running air tools. You could use it to fill tires, but personally I don't want to wear mine out doing that so I carry a CO2 bottle and/or another cheap ChiCom compressor in a bag for tires and air tools. Only the CO2 bottle is good enough for air tools.
 
As 1911 does, so do I. I've thought from time to time of installing an extra tank to use with the ARB compressor but I pretty much feel like the lockers work so 'if it works don't fix (or mess with) it'.

Although I did buy the ARB add-on air line with fitting when I installed the lockers soon after that I bought one of the good little Chinese compressors that were part of a group buy in here. It's a lot quicker inflating tires than the ARB would be, though I've never done a direct comparison.

If my ARB pump fails I think I'll just put the the other one in it's place if I can figure out a manifold to connect it to the ARB blue lines.
 
I have a 1.5 gallon tank under the mid-bed, that's filled by my York. It's a good size. I could live without it, but it's nice to have. The compressor rarely has to run on the trail for the two ARBs. The York puts out a good bit of oil, even with the oil mod and a coalescing filter, so I tend to fill tires from my rear air fitting so that the tank ends up collecting the oil instead of my tires (the outlet of the tank is high on the tank). I drain the little bit of oil that collects in the tank after trips. I haven't really run air tools on the trail, but if I were to do that, I'd run them off my front air fitting since it somewhat has a built-in oiler. :D
 
I might end up going with a 1 gallon tank to have a little extra reserve when lockers are being used. My last cruiser I installed a York compressor, great setup but not in my immediate plans. I don't think the 1 gallon will be too much for thr arb compressor. Does anyone know what the arb compressor will cut off at? 90 psi or 120?

Air circuit s
I wanted an air circuit that had a storage tank for inflating tyres and a air circuit to engage ARB lockers.
The problem here is the air tank needs to be filled before the air lockers can be engaged.
This operation takes time and to me when you require air lockers you need them right away .
I designed this air circuit that gives me the best of both worlds.
This air circuit allows the ARB lockers to run at 120 psi and the Aux air tank at 85 psi
The air lockers circuit takes about 3 seconds to reach 120 psi were the the air tank circuit and take around 2 minutes to fill the air tank.

Does anyone knows if you need an inline filter to drain water out from the ARB air compressor?. I’m Afraid that it will pump water into the differential and make a mess inside it.
Every time i air up my tires, some water comes out the line, I’m sure that water is also going into the diffs when i used them.
