Anyway to increase efficiency on a 2UZFE Engine or Transmission?

I just bought a 16 Prius for work, I travel about 3k miles/mo. WOW is all I can say about the economy - I did a 650 mile trip this week and averaged 57.5. Unbelievable and I actually enjoy driving it, even being a "truck" dude. And yes...it has full under armor too bad its thin plastic haha.
I was averaging over 50mpg with my 2015 Golf TDI, which was awesome considering it had roughly 240lb-ft of torque....but yeah, VW and TDI I know, I know...

I've seen significant gains by walking to the train station and riding the rail to work - only have to fill up the LC 2 or 3 times a month!

i'm still not understanding the 100 ownership vs fuel savings relationship. You're either ok with it or you're not. and if you're not, then buy something else or add a DD.

The way i saw it is the extra i spend on gas is covered by it's reliability and cheap running cost. That's the only way.

The biggest fuel efficiency mod you can do is actually free. Your driving style.

Hypermiling techniques do not only apply to fuel efficient cars. Rather they can be done and actually to greater effect on gas hogs. The techniques are particularly effective for freeway driving, where wasted energy from aero drag, can be avoided by driving slower.

A change from 75mph to 65mph can see mpg rise from 13mpg to something like 16mpg. While that may seem numerically small, it's about the same percentage improvement as going from 40 to 50 mpg.

has anyone tried the part time kit from marks4wd? there are probably more but thats the one i have heard about.

Retired only travel in 3 mile radius 97% of the time, 100 degree weather full air con plus a lot of 30-40 mph driving and I get 11 mpg. Drove to Houston a few months back at 65 mpg avg. got 14-15 mpg. I'm happy with my 5800 lb beast. I drive about 5-6k miles a year

You just gotta ask yourself, "self, is driving 65 in a 75 zone every day of the year, and accelerating gingerly from every stop light I encounter every day, and heaven forbid ever dropping this dainty best into 4Lo worth saving $35/month?"...

Don't get me wrong, I'm completely on the same page. I'm a lover of burning dinosaurs. My LX470 always has ECT power on, and I don't hesitate to mash the pedal. My other car is worse still, weighs half as much, and can match the bad gas mileage of the LX.

But I can also appreciate efficient cars and efficient driving strategies. That's why my wife is my personal carbon offset program, and drives an EV.

As someone who drives for a living and MPG is a major part of making money instead of wasting it...drive slower, anticipate your stops, easy on the throttle from a stop, windows up on the expressway, use your cruise, even in town. Speed limit is 35, set your cruise for 34.
Use quality fuel, cheap fuel reduces MPG, increase tire pressure, clean air filter, use the correct octane fuel, remove extra weight, coast when possible, you see the stop light up ahead is red, foot off the throttle and start coasting to a stop.
Stopping is wasted energy, starting from a stand still is wasted energy. Keeping a constant speed is the best way to increase MPG.
