Is there anyway to improve the efficiency on a 2UZFE engine or transmission on a LX470 I am looking to get better fuel efficiency. Has anyone incorporated the newer engine changes to these older engines? What about a transmission swap to get 6 speeds?

nothing you do will ever recoup the cost of the swap in fuel savings. nothing. You have a 5400 lb truck with full time 4wd, a V8 and low gears. Bad fuel mileage is the trade off. I always get 13-14mpg. Every GM/Ford 1/2 ton 4x4 truck I had got about 14-15 mpg and were not fulltime 4wd.

Drive 70 mph... instead of 75 mph.
From stock to 2", 33s and a winch bumper - the biggest (really only) thing that made a noticeable impact on MPG was speed. Even played with the tire pressure - from 30 psi to 50 psi.

And yeah, what @bamabrock said.

Perhaps you should consider fabricating a removable front air dam/

It is my understanding that the one of the biggest killers whent it comes ot MPG is air under a car. There is almost no comparison between a LC and any other vehicle, including full sized trucks. The LC's ridiculously high front bumper with no air dam is great for maximizing approach angles, but horrible on our wallets.

I get 13.xx mpg back and forth to work and 15.xx mpg when I use cruise on the highway for any distance. It's the nature of the beast.

I also have a 1998 4 door Chevy Tahoe with 3.42s that gets pretty much the same mpg.

As other have said... You're driving a nearly two ton brick. Best ideas besides trading it in on a Prius is to slow down & drive 60 or less, no drag race starts... soft braking, NASCAR style drafting behind big rigs and you may get 18 mpg going down hill from the mountains.

There is an art to hypermiles but with our big, heavy trucks, you're pretty much stuck with crappy mileage. Just enjoy it and embrace the sucky mileage.

While I'm content with the horrible gas mileage, I think I've seen disconnect hubs, though you might lose your abs. That might gain you 10%. As far as modifying the engine or transmission, it's a fool's errand. It get's complicated.

Hyper mile people like installing belly plates under their cars - anyone know if an aluminum full skid plate system for the 100 does anything for mpg? Guessing the weight and perforations kinda make it a wash. Also seems most people installing this upgrade already have 1000+lbs of other accessories added to their rigs. Just curious.

I just accept the MPGs and if it drops suddenly that's my only concern really. Wife gets consistent 14-15mpg DDing ours. I offset it by DDing a Prius now, mashing it at 85 with the AC on and still average 50mpg.

Emailed a guy selling a 100 with part time kit installed and he said it only gave him like 1mpg. I don't recall why he did the conversion, for towing or being towed frequently I think.

I did a full Indy-car stage 3 weight reduction (removed third-row, running boards and roof-rack). I gained at least 1 mpg, but lost a ton of utility. #becauseracecar.

You need to start thinking in terms of fleet average fuel economy. I average my DD Cruiser mpg with my wife's DD Prius mpg and all is good.
31 mpg in my garage.
More like 21-22 MPG. You have to weight each car's MPG by the gallons of fuel used. Or calculate total miles/total gallons, either way...

Buy a Scangauge2 or equivalent and monitor your mpgs's...its amazing how much better the LC will do if you are mindful. Not saying that I am, just saying it will do better (especially in town) if you go easy on the skinny pedal. My 14 Tacoma is no different...with ARB bumper, winch, 3" lift it gets same as LC and it's a V6.

I just bought a 16 Prius for work, I travel about 3k miles/mo. WOW is all I can say about the economy - I did a 650 mile trip this week and averaged 57.5. Unbelievable and I actually enjoy driving it, even being a "truck" dude. And yes...it has full under armor too bad its thin plastic haha.
