Great pics Dave, Looks like a good time. I would like to have joined you but by the time I got home it was not a good idea to make my way out the Ortega.:beer: :hillbilly:

Glad you and Yosh had a good time. Oh by the way, I think a Dodge was following you. ;)

naah that was my loser 2wd buddy, he actually does well on rough steep climbs.. i was surpised!

Yeah they cruised around the campsite.. i was peaking out the window waiting for them to come up to the fridge and sniff.. but they never did. I yelled at them and they stopped walking, but then came back after a few minutes. Coyotes are pretty much harmless.. unless it was a hungry mtn lion... then yes i was happy to be on the roof!!!!!

How did the new Mombasa Tent do?

Given the area around BlueJay - I'd have my money on mountain lions.

Dont say that Brent :(

Caspers hiking and hikes from Ortega to Scripps Ranch near Dove Canyon have all but ended due to mountain lion activity at Caspers Park...due to Mountain Lions! Caspers nearly shut down after the young child from Costa Mesa IIRC several years ago was mauled and had facial deformities (you'd be ok on the facial stuff Dave :flipoff2: ). All kidding aside, the last time our troop stayed at Scripps Ranch they warned us about mountain lions and told us three deep walking around for the scouts and two deep for adults, minimum! They were serious and we took them at their word! This happened a couple of years ago, but no reason to think that it's any better. As man has further encroached on the mountain lion habitat out along Orgega, they have become more familiar and aggressive with humans. I think the only way I'd stay at BlueJay would be IN my truck and not in a tent on the ground unless the campground was PACKED with drunk aholes making noise all night long.

Yes, i know. Im well aware of this trust me!!! They're really dangerous when we ride at Chino hills state park too... and last time we ran Main Divide i saw a baby mtn lion while i was driving.. that is scary.. they usually wont get anywhere near vehicles!!! i was wondering 'where is the parents!"

My dad rode with a few people that have been attacked in Whiting Ranch and other areas around our local mountains. One of the people died a couple years back and was what the coroner called "Canoed". The lion mauled the rider and ripped them open like a banana peel. It sucks and it's really scary. Thats the one Orange County Fire Auth Helo crew air dropped off guys with rifles up there and shot the lion and dragged it back on tv. Sucker was huge!

There was a sign up at each campground entrance warning everyone.

The scary part is... when i was looking out the tent window, i heard people still up yelling around camp fires and saw vehicle headlights driving by occasionally. They just stopped what they were doing and then you'd hear foot steps again in the leaves after the car passed.

You have to watch out for bobcats too. They're just as scary.
