Edited to frustrated with it.

For those that didn't see this before I was feeling beaten by this thing. Not wanting to sell it as I truly do want this thing on the road sometime this century. If anyone in the Tampa Bay area has the time, willingness, and knowledge to help with a complete rewiring job ( non factory) any help will be appreciated. I am working on getting a trailer so I can tow this thing if needed.

Thanks for the words of support guys. Its just been tough not making much progess and seeing this thing just look like it is laughing at me.

Don't know if anyone can identify or not.

So, here goes,,,,,,,,,,,,,once more into the fire.....................

Been there. A suggestion is probably the last thing you want but I'm gonna give it an attempt to prevent regrets. So here goes, put a top on that thing & do an extremely through cleaning of your garage. Pack all the parts in the 40 & lock the door. If you've got room, push it to one side of the driveway. Then walk away for 3 months. Don't look at it & don't think about it but DON'T SELL IT!

X2 on this. Unless you need the money. Wait a few months and then schedule a build day with your local club to work on it. Having others that are enthusiastic about it will really reignite the passion that you clearly had/have for it.

I second and third it . Don't sell it , like baja1d said load what you can in it and walk away for while . If after a few weeks or months go bye and you still don't won't to mess with it then think about selling it . The one I built for my son fought me all the way , the main problem was I had never done a total frame off of anything before . Heres what I started with.......

I'm gonna give this thing one more shot at getting it wired and running, if after that it is in the same shape, it is going to the first one that offers cash and trailer.

Wish I were closer to other Cruiser nuts that could help.

This thing is kicking my ass and depressing hell out of me.

Here's the middle and the finshed truck . It been almost 3 years now the 40 is with him at Ft Stewart and still going strong . So don't give up yet . I did all of this in a small one car garage as you can see . I had to replace the entire floor pan , rockers and yes the wiring harness . Plus a ton of other stuff . What part of Florida do you live in , maybe if you're close enough I can help . Oh it's a 1969 with alittle 78 mixed in .

Thanks
Gettin out for now, to not blow it up. Take a breather and just take some time.

Be back later

Good idea:cheers:

Speaking from the experienced position of someone who sold his 40 years ago to keep the wife happy instead of putting it aside, I can promise you you'll regret getting rid of it. I do every time I see one:frown:

I have an FJ62 now, that I've considered (for various reasons) selling off and on over the years. Sometimes for business or financial reasons, and other times, for the same reason you were considering it. For the aggravation they can bring!

Steve on here suggested some time back that I do the same thing that has been suggested to you. Set it aside if possible, and come back to it later.

As fate would have it, my financial situation changed, and my business needs no longer dictated the pick up I was contemplating, so I did what he suggested and kept it!:D

Every time I see one like some of the completed rigs on her, it fuels my spirit to complete the build the way I want it!

I often go to the 60 series registry for "motivation."

If you can, hang on to it.
Go to the 40 registry and drool for a while.
I do this regularly for "motivation."

Let your head clear, then come back with a renewed focus and plan.

I really wish I had kept my 40, and swear to one day own another!
After all, anyone can own a Jeep.
Only a chosen few get to own a 40:D

I've sent you a PM.

Take care,

OD

Wiring can be pretty easy, just a change in perspective. If I can get away for awhile when you are ready to engage it again let me know. I would hate to see someone sell just to regret it later. Took me almost 7 years to find another one when I sold mine. Throw a lunch on for a FLCA tech event, even if you have to trailer it somewhere closer to the crowd. There is a lot of expertise to help you keep it on the road (or get it on the road).

That rig looks like a lot of nice work was done. Walk away for a bit. Lets see the rest of her...love the color. BTW, here's what it did; notice the burned up wires?

And yet she still sits...

That may look like a mess, but start with a clear driveway or garage floor and just spread it out and label everything with toe tags. Get a large bag of cheap zip ties and start bundling things together. It starts off feeling like a total loss, then when your done yyour thinking this ain't so bad. Just like eating an elephant, one bite at a time...

I have found one problem with the harness. The "constant" power wire for the headlights has NO POWER. Any ideas as the company that made it said there is no way that can be. Tested at the fuseblock itself and,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,nada, no power, no workie.

Did you use a 2amp charger? Blown Maxi fuse? Tons of possibilities I suppose. Mine is coming together nicely but we're going on day 4 & a lot of attention to detail
