Is your rig grounded with clean connections? Frame & block, frame to cab, batt to frame? Have you downloaded & studied the Painless manual? The manual sucks but there are some nuggets in there

It is grounded enough that I have power to horn, cig lighter, gauge lights, and a number of other things. I am climbing back into it this weekend to recheck eveything again for the umpteeenth time and then start over.

I know its just gonna take some more time. I know one area I will most likely need help with it the flashers/emergency flasher. Wiring the toy lights to the turn signal unit to the EZ wiring flasher. Just trying to picture it,,,,,,,,,, is not easy for me. I think I need to look at it from a different point. Like Bret said point of view (I think) maybe if I lay down under it, it will make more sense.

If you have power to them then your box is energized. 98-100% sure that you got a ground problem. I installed all new ones since its the foundation for the project

The one right now that has no power is the lights. The others are "hot". I went with the EZ as it had nothing at all when I bought it.
It was brand new when I bought it.

and thanks Gwagg.

It was good meeting you today Harold!

After spending a little time looking at the harness, it was discovered that they didn't quite do it right... the wires that were labeld were plugged into the wrong part of the fuseblock! So it's no wonder the "constant" power wire didn't have power - it was hooked to a fuse that wasn't even connected!

Here's a picture of a terminal extration tool you'll need to get the wires out of the back of the fuse block:

Here's the link from Amazon:

That should do what you need. Or you can make the tool from a nail and a grinder. You push the tool in the back side of the connector and the wire will come out. Then you can put them back in the RIGHT slot...

EZ Wiring - IF THEY PUT THEM TOGETHER CORRECTLY!!!

Oh trust me, I took him up on the offer - but he was smart enough not to sell :)

Thanks tons Carter. It was great to meet you and thanks again for the insight, knowledge, and extra set of eyeballs. I will pick up the tool and switch the wires around (after taking the pics you suggested). I'm sure I will have other questions as time/wires go by. When you get a minute, if you would send me the link to the battery at Sears you mentioned it will be appreciated.

I actually forgot how smart it is to be friends with a bunch of nuts that have the same interests. It can make life so much less stressful.

Well, this is me walking out to start on my hundy axle boots.

You guys have a great Memorial Day.

See you after.

Yes, friends are good! I couldn't have done what I've done with my 80 without the help I've found on mud.

Here's the link to the Sears Die Hard Platinum batteries. I'm not sure what size you need - I use the 65 in my 80.

They're a little-bit on sale now. I got mine when the price dipped to $154. I'll post up here when that happens again.

Also check out AutoZone's AGM batteries . I looked at Sears but found Autozone had the same AGM battery for less money . I needed two group 65's for my ford . As far as both 40's and the jeep I went with the yellow top Optima . Reason being the yellow top Optima is a deep cycle dual terminal battery and it's a little smaller than the group 34dt AGM . The warranty on both are a no question asked 3 year free replacement . Plus finding an Autozone is easier than finding a Sears . That my 2 cents worth on batteries .

Thanks for the input on the batteries guys. Well I don't know about any of you but doing cv joint boots on a 100 series sure isn't the easiest thing in the world. But, with the help of a friend, it can be done. Phewwwwwwwwwwww glad that one is past me now. On to the 40 and making some slow but hopefully steady progress so I can eventually go for a ride with you guys.

Hope everyone had a good Memorial Day.

Die Hard Platinum back on sale a little more. Extra 10% off until tomorrow, making them about $178/ea.
