Been thinking; I initially appreciated the quiet sound of the lx470 I have. Buuut, it is a v8. Dual exhaust would be nice, as well as that irreplaceable sound of 8 cylinders rumbling through a nice muffler. The 2uz can sound great, I've heard it on other vehicles. My question is, is it worth getting a decent cat back system and or dual exhaust to open this bad boy up? Or just keep it as is, and get a hot rod for my v8 cravings?

It is an off-road vehicle that I'll use as my hunting rig but it's a shame to not have the v8 sound like one, IMO.

Remove the rear resonator, install high-flow cats and a performance muffler. It will sound very nice. I have video clips somewhere in my build thread, linked below. IMO the only benefit you'd get out of true dual exits would be for aesthetics, and since our bumpers don't have little holes for the pipes, I think it would look out of place. Kind of like when a redneck puts dual exits on a V6 Mustang that doesn't have the GT rear bumper that accommodates dual pipes. As it is, my tail pipe terminates inside the bumper so it can't ever be squished by an obstacle. To say, it's not even visible unless you're under the truck.

Or just wait 6 more months up in Manitoba, the rust will eat a hole in your muffler and it'll sound nicer.

You don't need a dual to get it sounding good (loud). Headers and a full catback is enough to let everyone know you're in the area and generally annoy your neighbors.

Thanks guys, yeah no need to run dual. Good point about the hole not cut out in the bumper. Damn tho, headers, high flow cats, and muffler is starting to sound pricey. Might just try resonator delete and muffler for now.

Honestly the cat is the most restrictive part, but that's another can of worms. It's already lift the accelerator when I pass a cop loud...

Go with an exhaust cutout.... loud when you want it, quiet when don't. ;)

To me I think more exhaust components is more source of failure and more stuff that gets hit possibility when going offroad.

On my old 2UZ Tundra I ran headers, "high flow" cats, high flow Y pipe, resonator and muffler. I did the whole exhaust from stem to stern and it was definitely a poor return on investment as far as power is concerned. Do it for sound but don't expect a 2UZ to really respond with performance tweaks. They're optimized very well from the factory.

If you completely remove either the muffler or the resonator you will get drone, if Toyota could have done it with one part instead of two they would have.
