So I’ve had the ‘13 LX for going on 11 years now. Recently I added my daughter and was looking at the cost break down on my policy (USAA).

The 13 LC costs more then the 2018 Tesla model 3p and 2024 Colorado ZR2 combined and only $400 less a year then the other 2 plus our 2004 MB e320 4matic. I have the Tesla listed as 7k miles a year, ZR2 at 7k and LX and MB 5k a year.

In other terms the LX is almost 40% of my auto bill. The other 60%: 2018 Tesla + 2024 ZR2 + 2004 MB + 2016 ORV camper

Crazy for a slow, safe, boat of a truck.

Myself, wife, 18yo daughter, and 21yo daughter; blend of Progressive and Hagerty policies. Previously was with USAA but had a broker shop for me a couple of years ago and saw significant savings. Hybrid F150 insurance cost jumps out as 'high' to me. LC's are about where I would expect in comparison to others, considering their market value. Adding a G-Wag soon so will see where that ends up....
21 F150- $1,378
17 LC- $1,016
18 LC- $1,130
17 Cayenne- $896
21 Bronco- $866
18 GT3- $2,027
16 Cayman S- $706
60's classic- $134

Our auto insurance has doubled over the past 5 years - just 2 65+ old folks, no claims, but it IS Colorado (Eastern Cali).

the LX cost about 1.5x in premium of a lower cost vehicle, they are not dinging the safety or liability, just the comprehensive makes it cost more overall.

Ask your agent what car has your daughter listed as the primary driver. We have my son on my 2012 Prius - wish he could be on the 78 FJ40.
If they list her as the primary driver on the oldest/cheapest to repair - it should help lower the overall. Adding a 18yo boy, I thought I bought stock in my insurance company.
(we sold my wife's 2019 Model 3 - it was 1/3 insurance cost of our 5 cars)

Car insurance has become the newest "highway robbery" - (homeowners also has been climbing like a rocket)

My Colorado and Tesla are each worth way more then the LX.

She is primary on the old MB. I’m primary on the others.

My insurance went up 20% on my August renewal, '13LX, 56y/o only driver in the house no tickets or claims. I have my LX for 5 years now and the insurance has basically doubled in that time.
On top of my home owners insurance going up 18% Jan 1 and natural gas 18% on Jan 1 also. But I got a 5% raise last year... Colorado...

I’m almost 50, never had a wreck, ticket, or claim on my life. Have to see if I can look back and see what it cost me to insure the LX 10 years ago when it was new.

The only reason it bought my attention was that it was so much more then our newer more valuable cars.

If insurance goes up 20% a year (mine does also), $2000 in year one is $4976 in year 5, which will be more than doubled. My insurance automatically increase the miles every year and I have to send in a signed odometer form with the intended mile usage and I get some premium back that way.

I remember how it only used to go up just $100 or so.

Multi car discount used to be a thing, but in the end you are just paying more with more vehicles.

I can relate...
All my autos are up. But, my umbrella doubled!
And, my insurance on my rental/investment went up 65%!
I got a new policy for a third of the cost. Ironically, the policy was with Farmers, and the new policy is with a Farmers owned company. I'm sure they'll deny ANY claim  :deadhorse:

Mine went up about 10% in June. For the 2013 LC and a 2017 Mini Cooper it’s about $5k/year for 2 adults and 2 kids (18 yo girl, 16 yo boy). We “lucked out” in the sense that once all vehicles have a driver, all remaining drivers are pooled and you apparently only pay for the most expensive one. So adding a 16 year old only increased my cost by about $225/year.

Insurance is very zip code-specific though. I suspect I’d pay half as much in rural Nebraska or Montana than in Chicagoland

I’m about the last person to make an excuse for insurance companies, but I know the cost of parts and labor for vehicle repairs has gone bonkers. I’m lucky I can do much of my own work because I don’t know how someone paying dealer or even Indy shop prices can afford it. Some places near me will likely be $200 an hour in the near future if all the fees are included.

I pay $80 a mo for my 16 and $85 for my 23 Tundra TRD Pro. 2020 4Runner is $60 and my 88 FJ62 is $30.

All have towing coverage, $100 comp and $500 collision deductibles. About a 15% increase from 2 years ago.

My lakehouse insurer dropped me due to fire risk. Thankfully I have been able to find decent coverage for not too crazy of a cost.

What does doing your repairs have to do with the price of insurance? Unless you are doing bodywork (which car insurance covers) I don't see how it is relevant...

I just added a 2011 LX570 to my insurance. I got the quote and thought that I only had a $170 increase on my 6 month premium.

Then I saw the quote was for just the LX570. It's a bit crazy that you can insure 2 cars for cheaper but there isn't much one can do.

For my three cars: $296.44 per month. The Land Cruiser is: $888.44 per year and the VW GTI which my 18 Y/O son is on is: $1855.97 per year. Now that he is in Marine boot, he will be dropped from the insurance on his graduation day - Nov. 1. The insurance has more than doubled in the last two years. Same for home owners. And now, this damned Line Fire is threatening. That is not going to help in the future. I am currently under an evacuation warning. Joy.

I'm with you here. The premium on my 2013 LX570 is $1,552 / year while our brand new 2024 Honda Odyssey (slated to drive twice the annual distance) is $1,302 / year. The Honda is worth at least $7-10k more than the Lexus. I'm in my early 30s and have zero accidents or tickets. Wife has one minor fender bender (less than $2k repair and not at fault) a couple years back and no tickets. Bundled home/auto and carrying the largest allowed comprehensive deductible on each vehicle to reduce costs. Insurance has nearly doubled in two years and the only explanation was "Texas has seen a spike in uninsured drivers, and we cannot share any other specifics."

Located in DFW, Texas insured through USAA.

$1,552/yr. is an amazing price. I'm paying that every 6 months. I don't have a bad accident record or anything crazy.

I may have to shop USAA again.

Where do you live? That's a huge influence. And the $1,552 / year is just for the 2013 LX570
