Anyone particularly happy with their gas grill?

I guess I should add that I have noticed that some of the burner valves on my Weber must leak because if you forget to turn off the tank valve it seams like a lot of gas gets lost in a short amount of time. Something I should look closely at when I pull it out of the garage next time.

got a stainless steel Tuscany model (forgot make) from Costco 2 or 3 years ago. Body great but burners and cover tents all rusted to pieces. Too early for that and company wants to nickel and dime us. Was a lot of hardware for the $ though.

I'd go with a used Weber next time. Reviews on those are generally outstanding.

dude, you can take it back to costco and get a replacement for free......

I have a Vermont Castings which has served me well for the last 5 years. Use it twice a week in the winter, 3 times a week in the spring and fall and nearly every day in the summer. I should get some new burners for it though.

same here. i drilled out the orifices and opened the O2 baskets and it now gets over 1000 degrees....

Another vote for Weber Genesis. S-320 going on 5 years and rock solid. Grill on it year-round, even in snow.

Weber also comes from factory plumbed for natural gas (and a long line to hook up to the house line) if you should desire. Order that and don't mess around with converting. They don't have a long line option for LP models, though. Had to go to the supplier to get hooked to the house with a 12' line. WTF?

ive got a weber something. 3 winters uncoverd still works like a champ

I took this suggestion (from nomembername) and bought the genesis grill a few months ago...cooked on it pretty much daily for a whole month. NOMNOMNOM. I had to get the propane one though.

Char-Broil "infrared" model

very good control of heat, and it gets hotter than the conventional style

we like that it is just the right size for 2 people - I would consider it way too small if I had parties at my house

I got the Weber Genesis a few years back, It's a great basic grille. I got the 2 burner one, I'd prefer the 3 burner version in retrospect, but really, no worries.

We got it when we were remodeling our kitchen and I knew we would be cooking outside a lot...

Back in the day I used to sell grills at a sporting goods store. In the two years I worked there I never had one complaint about a Weber except for their price when compared to some of the lesser brands.

Are you dead set on gas though? The best steaks I've ever had came off my buddy's Big Green Egg Big Green Egg, World's Best Smoker and Grill

The Egg is as much a cult as a grill. Some people enjoy the convenience of on/off gas, and taking less time to put a meal together. Especially in cold winter months...

Not gas, but live my Big Green Egg. Not nearly as much trouble as I thought a charcoal grill would be . Charcoal lasts a lomng time. heats up very quickly. Can cook anything from tukey to pizza. Best steaks ever.

Weber Genesis fits pretty neatly into the price range, though it seems like there's no real way to get a deal on these grills.

It sounds like that's worth a try for the next go-around, thanks guys.

Home Depot was clearancing these at $499.00. Had to go in the store. Did not show up on thier web site. Bought mine in October I think.

My house came with a built in Holland attached to the gas line. Most of it is stainless and the cast iron burners are beefy, no where near rusting out and I know it's north of a decade old and is in the weather all the time., just has a cheap cover thrown over it when not in use.... It's a bit different than a regular grill (indirect heat), but I've enjoyed the hell out of it.

Weber Genesis will not let you down. My former wife got my first one, which used natural gas and then I got a Big Green Egg (natural charcoal smoker/grill), which I love. Last summer, as I was driving home, I saw that my next door neighbor had a Weber Genesis on the curb with a "Free" sign on it. I rang his doorbell and learned that the "flavorizer" bars above the burners were shot, so he bought a new grill. Knowing that the metal bars are easily replaceable, picked up his trash and made it my treasure! New stainless bars and an LP tank. Now I have a "like new" gas grill AND my BGE...which is a great set up!

So here's the $1,000,000 question... Home Depot had a closeout deal on a stainless Genesis 310 that had been forgotten due to an already fulfilled will call. Only caveat is it was a LP version, and we use NG. Everything "official" online says weber is trying to keep people from converting and conversions are now not possible, but I see no reason why they can't be drilled for NG and run with a fixed tube.

Any Weber users out there done the illicit conversion? :grinpimp:

Let me google that for you :D

You see, I know how to google it, but google often sucks for things like this, and with actual owners of the grill I thought it better to ask.

No matter, I found another owner with the same dilemma who led me to this:
Schematics Diagram

I then found a parts wholesaler who was willing to provide me with the NG manifold without cross referencing a serial number as Weber typically requires. The manifold is the only piece that differs (in any meaningful way) between the grills, and the cost for the NG manifold is about $10 more than having the gas company come out and drill the existing manifold.

All said and done I still got a steal on the grill and I have the LP manifold I can swap back on if it ever needs warranty work. I understand companies are hesitant to make conversion systems available due to liability, but damn with Weber it's a pain to find the right parts and someone willing to sell them without a serial number.

It's also clear that, despite being $500, this is a very well designed simple stainless steel grill that will "just work". None of that stupid flim-flam nonsense or useless side burners... it's just a high quality grill with nice thick stainless steel construction. Exactly what I was looking for.
