Anyone own a black LC down in Texas or the south? Any issues with heat?

Wife and I really wanted a silver on terra LC, but that combo was very difficult to find in our search. We ended up buying a black on terra 2019 CPO truck at a price point that made sense for us. Love the look of a clean black truck, and yes it is a massive pain to keep it clean.

Our primary concern is heat and keeping our two large furry dogs cool as we drive around. This is top of mind because we’re planning to move back down to south Texas starting July. Yep best time to go :)

I’ve ceramic tinted all the windows including the windshield which definitely helped. I’m also considering getting the truck wrapped in 3M 2080 White Aluminum (closest match to Classic Silver Metallic). However that will be quite expensive ($4-5k), and I wanted to first get other LC owners experiences owning black trucks during summer months in hot climates. Is it noticeably worse? From my research, black cars cabin temps can be 40 degrees hotter than white/silver cars if left in the sun for 3 hours. I would never leave my dogs unsupervised. I’m most concerned about the cabin being too hot for them after long hikes or the AC being overworked to keep the truck at 66 degrees.

All the reputable wrap shops I spoke with down south are getting booked up so I need to commit sooner than later if I want it wrapped before September.

I've got a black on black 2021 so I'm also curious to others opinions/experience. One way I'm planning to mitigating heat is I'm getting the passenger and driver windows tinted darker. I also am using a covercraft sun shade on the windshield. The covercraft is custom cut to fit the front windshield.

Having spent the last year in the UAE where summer temps get to 130+ I can tell you that there are lots of black LX570s and Nissan Patrol's. Nearly every LC is white, but I'm confident that the LC could rapidly cool down.

It has been near 90 and sunny here in East TN for the week. I have ceramic on the front doors and I use a sunshade for the windshield. The LC cools very well - I always make sure to have the rear AC unit/fan turned on with the vents open. The overall system seems to move air through the vehicle quickly.

Otherwise, it's just pretty standard 'living in the heat' approach - always look for shade to park in, drop the windows for a minute or two when starting off to get the super hot air out.

Have Black on Black here in Oklahoma. Yes it get's hot but the AC cools BY FAR quicker than any car I've ever owned. If you have remote start, kick it on for a few minutes and you're good to go. If not or you can't, it will cool to tolerable in under 30 seconds and seems to be cool as a cucumber in under 5 minutes.

Thanks all. Good call on the remote start. Thankfully my truck came with it.

AC is designed to keep the truck cool blasting dunes in 100+F in the Middle East. As others have said, AC works better than any car I’ve ever owned.

I test drove a tundra and Cruiser back to back on a 95F day. The tundra was still warm at the end of a 20 minute test drive. The cruiser was blowing ice cold air in less than 5 minutes.

here in DFW area, have black on black LX since 2015 and obviously being black onn black it does get comparatively more hotter than white on beige interior on my other vehicle but paint has held good, it does get boiling hot when you get in but cools down very rapidly with both AC running and havent really considered getting other color instead of black on black just due to hot summers. i dont have crazy tinting or ceramic coating on glass.

Stupid question…but does EXTERIOR color make that much of a difference on the interior temp?

Tint windows if possible and weather tech makes a windshield heat defector which works awesome for defecting the heat with the darker color 200s , it may look a little flimsy but works great .
the dash is black and it does get hot .
I have seen guys in Florida have the roof painted or warped in white or silver .

Live in Texas, have had black or dark grey cars for as long as I can remember. You said you've already done the windows and windshield in a ceramic film which is what I would have said. I've only done side windows on previous cars, but doing the windshield on the LC has made a huge noticeable difference.

Black LC in hot and ridiculously humid lowcountry SC here.
Big, big difference after ceramic tint all around.
Every car regardless of color in hot climates should have this installed.

Building on this. Majority of rear HVAC is routed through ceiling. It cannot cool as efficiently if the exterior surfaces are hotter.

There is a reason the NPC color for Cruisers in Australia and Middle East are white.

I have Onxy Blue with Black interior. Not an issue.

However, I am born and raised in DFW, so 95 degrees is a nice spring day to me for an afternoon jog, but I can't wait for summer to get here so I can take off the parka.
