Anyone measured the actual ground clerance?

I just did it and i got just 0.2 inch less (under the rear diff) than what it is listed...at the front(under engine) i got 0.4inches less My driveway is not straight, leans quite a bit. Next time i go out i will find a straight spot and do it again.
My car is not lifted and has KDSS.

Did anyone also do this? What did you get?

What are your tires like? Fully inflated? Good tread? Highway biased or offroad biased? All impact ground clearance at minute levels like you are mentioning.

Tires are goodyear efficientgrip suv. They don’t look used much at all, i am not sure how many milage they have on them as i got them with the car.

You got me on the air pressure. I have no idea.

Will try inflating the tires and see if that changes anything.

Cool thread and I don't recall much discussion on measured clearance. Tires have everything to do with this, even tire models as some run small.

Stock weight? Or do you have any accessories that would add weight?

Would be interesting to get more data points from others that have mods.

Yes i have often found (on others cars) the ground clerance to bit a bit less than listed.
But yes tires maybe.

I have a winch that the previous owner installed. Other than that i do not know.
I have a buddy that has a vehicle weight scale...so now i really wonder. I will see how much it actually weighs.

Yes would be interesting to see how much others have.

Hmmm.….. you measured when on quite a lean, with unknown tire pressure, and a winch and you only got 0.4 inches less up front than what’s listed? Sounds fine to me! I’m wondering now about tire size. Are you running stock size or maybe don’t know?

Other than the winch...everything else is stock, stock 18 wheels.

It does have suspension that is less than a year old. Previous owner changed everything before selling. New struts, shock, springs, KDSS valves and cylinders. So it should not be sagging.

I am not really worried. Just wondering how much is normal.

Did an IED blow up your LC while under previous owner’s care? And you still bought it?! Brave soul! :)

What are the stock spec'd clearances you're comparing against?

Bahaha. I don’t know what was it but he spent almost 10000 in $ just before selling.

•Like it’s listed 8.9 inches.
10.5” to pumpkin. Stock supposed to be 8.9”. I’m on ‘tall’ 35s
Nice. Only big tires give you a true lift like that. Would love a rig like that but wouldn’t make sense as it’s my daily now. Maybe if i ever get my hands on a nice 80 series...

I measured mine for kicks as well. With 35x12.5" tires (Toyo AT3 @40 PSI) , and a mild 1" AHC sensor lift. As you said, only tires provide any true lift to the solid rear axle. Suspension lift makes a good difference to the front.

Rear under axle: 10.6"

Front: 11.5". AHC high: 13.4"

The 200-series handles big tires well even for a daily driver. I don't hesitate to let my wife drive and she doesn't notice much of any difference. Stepping up to a 33" tire would be a nice sweet spot IMO.

10.6" seems good. I measured 11 3/8" with 25psi in my tires. Not much difference between ours. Front is at 15.5" at those two big bulges protecting the front dif mounts. And I only measured in AHC high 😉

35 psi, 305/70r18, heavy (jumbo?).

About 11 1/8…

I was hoping the sasquatch would weigh in. :)

Those precious inches are hard fought. Seems too small to make a difference, but it sure does when off-road.

Some of the newer IFS vehicles do have a clearance advantage when it comes to deep tire ruts straddling terrain. Dragging the diff sucks, and the only way around it on a solid axle is bigger and bigger tires.

Wow. Those Baja boss are growers. Tire calculator says they’re 1/4” less sidewall than mine, but tape has them 1/2”+ more height.

Yeah, it’s made fitting them a bit more of a challenge than I’d anticipated. At the moment they’re barely clearing the KDSS that’s moved forward 1.5 inches and aren’t far from the modestly-chopped body mount. I didn’t really believe it when I saw the manufacturer’s diameter of 35.3 but they’re every bit of that un-mounted. They’re a shade over 34” from the ground when mounted and the horizontal is just over 35”. On the large end of 35s for sure. Would prefer them to be narrower, TBH, but ain’t complaining about the additional clearance.

I decided to measure too.

Tires are a little under 34"

14" in front

10" rear
