Anyone know what all the in/out lines into fuel tank are for?

There are a few groups of lines coming out of the fuel tank. Anyone know what they are for?
there is a group of 4 lines that go up into some plastic thing in the back side panel.
another group of 3 lines further back. one of them is the breather.

Wanting to know if I can 'T' into any of these for the diesel return on a 12ht

You've got you're line fuel which pumps to the injectors, should be a filter on that one, then you also have your return line as well, the one that pumps excess fuel back into the tank, so that'll be the one you want

Return Line: You will need to drop the tank and replace the pick-up tube. You need to install one from a HJ61. I have a part number if you want.

The lines have specific functions, if you connect the return to the breather your chassis will be pumped full :D

Dropping the tank is a terrible job (now it will be easy when you do it), the inspection hole in the cargo bay gives acces to the fuel sensor (empty-full)
Just make sure you dont mess up the bolts (they are special japanese style) and enter them perfectly straight or they will not grab the thread.

Fuel pick up in the corner, rusted and never cleaned it might be a disaster to get loose?

Have already installed the metal return line and dropped the old tank out of the hj61 looked at the screw holding the main fuel line and return line pipes and didn't think I would be able to get it off so was wondering if I could get away without having to drop the other fuel tank out of the HJ60 and route the return through a different inlet.

Thanks for advice Will get back under the truck and take out the tank and swap over. Was not much fun haha. lots of bad language coming out from under the truck.

I would not bother trying to take the HJ61 pick up off and swapping it over. I would just swap the tanks. Less chance of breaking tiny rusted bolts.
 
Curious to why the return line has to go to the tank and can't be routed to the filler neck by using the overflow connection on a 60/62 filler neck.
 
If you are in the USA you might get a free tank for the recall.
EU does not have it: I asked Toyota Netherlands.
Did you get it running allready because the finishing touch is also the hardest part, good luck!

The return has to be submerged or you get a tank full of foam I think and the pump gives 5 times more fuel (I thought I read that somewere) then you need to cool the pump so that is some funky stuff going on there, you dont want that to mix with air.
Also that is why a HJ60 drives on veggy oil so nicely: build in pre heated fuel, and thats why a block heater is on my way so the freezing cold starts are perfect.
 
I have very little experience with tearing down my 61 when I look over the EPC the fuel delivery lines and returns as well as venting look to be a carbon copy as a 62 , I don't see a fuel pump in the tank as in the 62 so I assume it is drawn by the IP just as in my 2B and 3B motors.
If the return was connected to the filler spout I can't see it causing a foaming issue I would think the return flow back to the tank would be a small portion of fuel and any foaming would dissipate fairly fast.

Am I wrong on any of this please educate me since I lack knowledge in the 12ht
 
Took Tank out today and swapped the pickup over. Glad that is over haha. screws came out ok. The fuel return pipe does go to the bottom of the tank right next to the fuel pickup line. So might be something in that rather than just routing in into the breather pipe. Although on a diesel engine yacht installation the diesel return just went into the top of the tank.
There are a group of 4 lines that come out of the tank and go up into the side panel in the boot into some strange plastic thing not sure what that is for either.

Still got a few more things to do :
install the radiator , air cleaner, glow heater wiring, top mount intercooler.
hopefully get it started tomorrow. can't wait
 
I know that this is an old thread here - but still think that is is good to add information for the ones which are looking for those.
The previous owner of my truck fitted a 12ht into the 2h chassis. He "T" the return line direct into the large tank breather which goes up to the filler - it does work without issues engine wise - but it is a pita to fill the tank as sometimes the returned diesel resides in the lower part of the hose, prevents venting until it has burbed upwards - I have to refill really slow until that breather has emptied itself out into the filler neck - but sometimes when filling a tad to fast diesel burbs out right towards you.....not nice.
I also need to drop the tank to get it right....
