I am looking to upgrade my old belleview winch. It works great pulling, but the hand brake doesn't work very well in holding the rig in place. I have to jockey the winch with the power in if I want to hold a rig in place.

I found this motor that I thought might work.

I know the winch cn be retrofitted, but want to know if this motor would work.

not sure if that will work or not, but there is a thred on Priate by logjam grant (or something like that) where he retrofitted a belview.

You might also PM CruisinGA as he replaced the motor on his Belview as well.

this guy used to carry the belleview winch motor...don't know if he's still selling them...the belleview has power 'in' only AFAIK

thanks for the info. The thread on pirate tell you how to retrofit to winch to have power in and out. I need to find a motor that would work for it.

You could use the motor from the thread on pirate and just set it up for power in.

Not sure why you need a new motor if the problem is with the hand brake?

I set up my belleview, had it working well and took it off my truck after the first real use. The manual brake made it downright dangerous for mountain wheeling/rockcrawling use.

That is my issue too. The hand-brake is not safe by today's standards. To hold a rig in place, it takes just enough power in to hold the rig from going backwards.

The reason I asked about this motor, is that the cite also sells the 4 relays needed to run the winch in both directs. For motor and relays, it would be about half as much as a new winch.

Sell your belleview to someone who wants it for the looks, take that money and the money you would've spent on it and buy a good used winch. I got a complete working 8274 for $200.

I wish someone had given me that advice before I spent any money or time on my Belleview.

I have two believiews. one on my rig and works great except the brake and the other, not so great. It is possible to find a used winch, but usually with shipping, it is not such a good deal.

I also want to see if I can modernize the wich for shiats and giggles.
