Definitely not stock Toyota, probably a locally-sourced body conversion. Check out old 4x4 magazines, you might come across mention of it or an old ad.
 
Yeah I did think of ambulance conversion. Had a poke around in the first one of these I came across and it had quite a few features that looked like they could have been factory but a professional conversion would be able to do this too I suppose. I'm leaning towards a 45 ute with a body grafted onto the back. The one I saw had what looked to be the lower ute cab (modified somewhat), behind the front seats. They both looked identical from the outside but it looks as though this one has had a camper makeover.

My Gregorys work shop manual shows that body style over the better known one.
doesn't say anything else about it though

the other one you saw wasn't in capalaba was it? i saw a blue one (completely rooted) at a wreckers there last may.

have never seen another like that, until you posted pics.

uted's pic clearly shows the "ridge" down the box.

mine truck conversion? very early toopy? must be more of them somewhere.

Well that makes three then. The other one I saw was that dirty grey/beige colour. Uted's pic deffinately shows the same box.
