Anyone in Phx/Scottsdale that can check out a rig for me?

I'm seriosly considering getting the 1995 fj80 that is on craigslist right now, is there anyone there who can check it out for me? I'm in Oregon right now, but could fly down next weekend.

Hi Matt

I looked at this truck on Wednesday. Here is a quick list what I saw and heard

Look liked all the grease had leaked our of the knuckles and was caked all over the outside of them.

Have you ever heard birfs clicking like a baseball card in the spokes of a bike?

The rear main seal is leaking, lots of oil on the transmission housing.

The paint is peeling and faded

Dent in the left rear where the tail gate meets the rear quarter panel.

Front and rear bumpers are dented and in various states of attachment to the truck.

Sketchy looking wiring for tow set up, complete with banged up and rusted receiver.

The interior is in rough shape.

One front seat bottom has come apart at the seams, the rest of the seats are dirty.

Dash board is dirty and some switches are broken. Small holes drilled into the plastic next to the shifter for the transfer case.

The driver side arm rest is not fully attached to the door is dirty, and the switches go down into the door when you press the button to put the windows down.

Engine started right up, sounded good and had strong pull. the trans shifted smoothly through the gears while stationary and between first and second. Can't take it out on the road as the insurance has been canceled so my "road test" was limited to driving around the condo complex.

There a few good points:

It's got lockers

New intake hose.

Carpet in the cargo are is in excellent shape.

The woman that owns it it nice.

hows she expect to sell it if no one can drive it?

Her insurance was cancelled so you couldn't drive it? That would make it hard to sell.

1997 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER AUTO 4WD AS IS SPECIAL

I ran the VIN here and found out this was one of our clients rigs here at the dealership before he traded it in somewhere. He needed several window motors, lotsa engine leaks, has just under 200K miles. Performed just enough "keep up " maintenance and repairs to keep it going, hadnt really put any long term money into it for the last 2+ years. Does run well though, If you could get it for $3000 and put some time into it to keep it, might be worth it.

The dealer advertised it for $5777 for about 2 weeks then raised it $6777 for some reason.

Personal insurance on test drives

However, in AZ the state gets record of cancelled insurance, and then cancels the registration of the vehicle. You might be able to argue that your insurance covers you for liability, but if the plates are invalid the car gets impounded and you will most likely also get a ticket for driving a car with expired/yanked plates even if it was a test drive.

I'm sure some LE member of the boards could comment if my impressions are inaccurate.

(I am neither LE, or a lawyer, so take advice with grain of sodium chloride)

Good to know. Years ago, we did drive our Jeep PU without any plates for several years (in Oregon) but then decided we'd better put it back on when we were making a trip to Yuma and then San Felipe, Mexico.

Side note - You will be arrested in Mexico without insurance
