thanks

what I am looking for specifically is dimensional data for body mounts

Im looking at feasibility of putting a HZ 79 cab onto a FZJ 80 frame

after posting this new thread I searched again and found an older thread with 73 and 75 drawings, (but not sure if body mounts are same as 79)

Hi again Mike,

Here are some scans from my manual, hope they help.

TWO-DIMENSIONAL DISTANCE (LJ73, RJ73 Series)

THREE-DIMENSIONAL DISTANCE (FJ73, PZJ73, HZJ73 Series)
TWO-DIMENSIONAL DISTANCE (FJ73, PZJ73, HZJ73 Series)

I have a scan of the frame drawing for the earlier FJ75, PZJ57, and HZJ75 pickup type from my Toyota Repair Manual for Chassis & Body for the 75 series.

The "Toyota Repair Manual Supplement for Chassis & Body (Hartop & Canvas Top) FZJ7_ series HZJ7_ series Aug., 1999", that is the update from the 75 to the 78/79 series, is not a complete manual, it only has information for parts of the 75 series that were updated in the 78/79 series.

You are expected to refer to the 75 series manuals for anything that is not mentioned in the 78/79 manual.

It does not have any frame dimensions in it, so I assume that the frame dimensions are the same as for the 75 series.

That is only a guess though, I have not checked it myself with my HZJ78, so I have no idea if these 75 series drawings do match up to the 78/79 series.

And I also doubt that these would match up to the newer V8 78/79 series, as they have a wider chassis at the front for the V8 to fit in, and you don't mention which you are interested in.

I had already scanned the 75 series frame dimensions for someone else, they are here...
Some Toyota 70 Series Repair Manual scans

Direct links to the two pages you might want are here...
BO-87 BODY - Frame Dimensions - THREE-DIMENSIONAL DISTANCE (FJ75, PZJ75, HZJ75 Series) - Pickup Type

BO-88 BODY - Frame Dimensions - TWO-DIMENSIONAL DISTANCE (FJ75, PZJ75, HZJ75 Series) - Pickup Type

thank you both

looks like the front body (cab) mounts on the 75 and 80 frames are within 80 centimeters (l/r and f/b) of each other at E and C (80 series) & D (75 series)

perhaps I am showing my ignorance, but dividing that 80mm between two mounts - it seems like ~40mm offset for each cab mount could be reasonably accomodated

I wasassuming that 75 and 79 body mounts are the same

of course Im a long way from worrying about engine to firewall clearance
I do not have a stripped 80 chassis or a 79 cab (to put on it) yet.

I believe the 79 cab that I will be looking at is from ~ 2002 - 2004

The 79 has a longer cab than 75 ute so im not sure if the cab to chassis mount got moved back with it or the 79 just has a bit more rear cab over hang

looks to me like same mount points with more cab overhang

dimensions we got are pretty close tothe 75 series drawing given in the link above.

Wayne and I upended the 79 cab that he has at the shop and took some measurements

shot of entire cab

shot of back cab mounts (E on drawing 44.09 inches) - the end of tape measure is at EDGE of body mount bolt

shot of front cab moun t (D on drawing 46.77 inches) - the end of tape measure is approx at CENTER of body mount hole

cab mounts D to E - dimension on drawing given as 42.894 inches

and finally - two items of note -

1. the distance from cab mount E to back of cab is approx 14.5 inches

2. the distance from cab mount D to firewall is approx 0 inches (firewall inline with the front cab mounts)

Did anything ever come of this? I'm getting ready to try the same thing and just wondering how much fun its gonna be to get it to work.

I did find a ute to 80 chassis build the other day , but couldn't remeber which post on mud wanted the info about body mounts,
it seems the back cab ones you redrill the chassis body mounts over about 10 mm, and it seems it's best to fab new middle and front mounts

Clint...could you pass the link along to the build...wouldn't mind reading about one thats already been done.

I have the 80 frame stripped...some rough measurements say the back mounts are about 1" or 25mm different. So I reckon the 10mm on either side is correct. The front two are way off and will have to be fabbed.

I thougtht about starting a build thread once I get the project in gear. There's already two blokes with threads going though and I'm not one to toot my own horn.

You should start a thread for yours, always a good reference for others doing similar builds in the future, and interesting to see what others are doing.

it ain't about tooting your horn, it is about helping others ...

sheesh, your statement made me feel like an attention slut ...

Yeah I guess the other ones being built right now are quite a bit different than my project. So I may as well do a build thread for others who want to go a down a similar road.

Hopefully the project will get going after the holidays.

Swamprunner,

Presuming you'll use the 80 axles, have you sorted anything yet about the axle width under the 79 cab and bed?

I know the 80 axles are wider than 70 axles, but I've never seen a picture to judge for myself the look of the extra width -- that would be interesting for all to see, I'd think.

Oh, if you're counting votes: Do your own thread. X2 on what Crushers said about threads being for others. A thread can read like "its all about me and my awesome build" or it can read like its documentation of a process. I, for one, like the latter.

Best of luck with it and please share what you can/want.
