Wondering how you’ve mounted it.

A fellow somewhere else in the past mentioned getting three front runner crossbars that gutter mount but I contacted them and they advised against it, also two only support 100kg so it stands to reason three might be good for 150kg which isn’t enough for a tent and two people of any size.

I can’t find a weight rating on the front runner roof rack, it has 3 or 4 gutter mounts.

Maybe a third gen 4 runner rack will fit?

I have the factory roof rack but no cross bars and they look weak as s*** anyway so I might as well just remove the oem rack if I can figure it out

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills, this can’t be this difficult to figure out. Every time I touch this thing it turns into an ordeal 😂

Hey don't usually jump in over here, but feel bad no one has responded.. I don't think a 3rd gen 4Runner rack would work for you as they generally bolt down to the top of the roof, at least in front ( the back may tie in with that short little rail system) but it would likely be a ton of work for not much benefit.

People are putting tents onto cross bars on top of rain gutter towers all the time, sounds like you want to do at least 3 cross bars which is a great. And either high enough to run over the top of your factory rails, or you remove the factory rails for a lower setup. I stock all of this- I'm also in Colorado. Hit me up if you want to come see some stuff or talk in person, I talk about this stuff every day happy to help. there's probably something on Craigslist that gets you out the door... doesn't have a be a big fancy full rack but happy to talk about that also. hope that helps!

The existing factory rails bolt down like a 4Runner near as I can tell but the Prado is a little boxier. I’m guessing the 4Runner crossbars might be a little narrower which would mean a rack for the 4Runner might be too narrow too. Just a guessing looking at one at a stop light the other day

The other thing I don’t know is, are they publishing a static or dynamic load rating? Dynamic there’s no way I’ll be over 100kg but static I could easily be in the 600lb range 🤷‍♂️

Other than maybe carrying traction boards I have no use for a full rack. I would remove the factory rails hoping to get the cross bars low enough to clear my garage with a tent on

I tacod a wheel today so now I need four new wheels. Tent project sorta on hold

My take….. no factory roof racks are not strong enough to support a RTT. Go with Frontrunner gutter mount bars and rest easy. (Pun intended 😉)

I guess my point is front runner rates their bars for 100kg and didn’t recommend using three for a tent for greater load.

I have the 90 series Frontrunner cross bar/towers set on my KZJ95 and have used it for my RTT for years with no issues. Seems there's plenty of strength there. Don't see a need for three bars.
