i'm putting a split hood on mt '74.. which now has a solid hood.. the hood prop (metal bar that props the hood up) on it now is on the side of the hood and sits on a hole on one of the aprons..

on the split hood of course the prop is in the middle.. does anyone have a pic and or can tell me where the hole is on an older model 40 for the hood prop? i was thinking it might be on the bib.. :meh:

I doubt it is the right thing but i prop mine on the valve cover.

Works for me and i am happy.

Center of slot to center of hole is 13/16" the hole is 5/8"
I use a rubber grommet to keep from getting scratched

I always wondered what that hole was for. I never thought about it being for the hood prop. I just tried it and it doesn't put the hood up very far. I think I'll still stick with putting the prop on the valve cover. At least that gives you some room to work. Or, better yet, fold the hood all the way back to the windshield when I need lots o room.

THANX.. that's exactly what i needed..

and when i finally get this split hood finished and installed.. i will try the valve cover method FIRST to see how it works before cutting any holes in my bib.. ;)

X2 on just folding back against the windshield. Glad I saw this though I was wondering where to secure the under hood rod to. I didn't even think about going to the valve cover. I've got a 73 that the PO installed a split hood on.

Be careful using the hood prop on a really windy day. Especially if the truck is facing into the wind.

If the wind catches that big hood just right, it will fly up and of course back into your windshield.

Before I started work on !Oy I had this happen. I was fortunate that I had a tarp folded up on top of the truck which dampened the impact. :D Of course at that time a big hood dent would have just added to the overall condition of the truck... :D

Do I feel like an idiot. I've been placing mine on the 2nd valve cover bolt, hoping it wouldn't fall off.

Learned something new today. Here's to ya.

one of the PO's for my rig put a hole in the fan shroud to put it. I found out the hard way that it stuck too far down to use that spot when the rig is running. scared the bajezus outta me when that fan blade hit the prop

you can still get the little plastic protector for the hard top, so you can let it sit all the way open(and not screwing the paint up), at some point 40's came with them stock, my 82 did
