I usually just flip the bike on the bars and seat... but I'm getting old, I think I want a stand. Anyone have a homemade stand? If not, is the Park stand the best.

Here's a link to something made out of PVC: PVC Bench-top Bike Repair Stand

I used to have a Park folding stand (it might be an obsolete model by now). It was OK, but I upgraded to a spin doctor. If you are going to spend time working on your bike or others bike, you should consider: (1) adjustable height, (2) rotating head (3) easy adjustment of clamp width. The park folding didn't have two out of three of these. I have also been volunteering as a bike mechanic for the California Aids Lifecycle, where we repair bikes at rest stops--in parks, dirt lots, etc. The three legged stands are more stable than the park folding was...

So think about what you want to do and how you will be using the stand, them make a decision. Good Luck.

I've had my Park Stand for 10 years now and use it 2-3 weekly from March to December. It's infinitely adjustable and has never, ever let me down with a broken part. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

I built a 3 legged stand out of the old bows from the BestTop soft top off my FJ40. It works for what I do and it was free.

I built one in my garage out of some PVC and steel pipe. Took a T fitting piece of PVC, split that and put a couple hinges on it. Glued some pipe insulation on the inside, held close with a plastic hose claimp. I attached that to a piece of steel pipe which screws into a flange I bolted to the roof of my garage. Nice thing is when I need it I just screw it into the flange on the roof and when I don't it doesn't take up too much space.
