I need a new engine for the land cruiser and i was looking over at man-a-fre at their high performance enigine. Its $500 more than the stock rebuilt engine, but they claim it has more power, and better fuel economy. Does anyone have any experience with this engine?
thanks,
mark

I have a high-performance engine in my 60. I really like it, and have been more than satisfied. It's the stock 2F that Toyota put it in it when she was born.

What do you mean by high-performance? The 2F does a great job.

If you want more high-end power, then get a race car.

You have a tractor, so deal with it.

Just playing with you man, there is little you can do to make the 2F gain more horse power etc. It is designed play at the lower side of gearing. Go try climging a mountain and you will then understand that you have a high-performace engine.

... and fuel economy only reflects how good you tune-up and take care of the seet 2F.

I have heard mixed reviews on their engines/customer service; they really seem to know their stuff when you call them though. Also call Cruiser Solutions or Landcruiser Solutions, dot com something like that. Lots of knowledge on the 2F and he sells rebuilds. I have a 2F with bumped compression (190 PSI) , that requires super premium mixed with 25 percent leaded race gas (112 octane) and it is quick for a 2f, still lags behind a good V8. I like it because it is powerful enough for me, a little more than stock, and is still original.

The 2F responds well to performance upgrades. I have built several of them and my buddies have copied the approach in several more. Compression, cam, induction, exhaust. There is a lot of untapped pontential in the 2F.

Just don't expect "too" much improvement in permformance, especially in a 60. You're still trying to push around 3 tons with a small displacement motor and there are some undefeatable physics involved.

I drove a hi-po 40 once that had real hot-rod potential. But I also drove a friend's 60 that had done everything in terms of 2F build except hi-comp cylinders and it really wasn't that impressive - not worth the time or money IMHO.

Sheesh, I thought C-Dan was crazy carrying around a case of octane boost for his supercharged 1FZ. Oops, wait, that's secret...shhhhhh

Thanks for the replies, I understand Im not going to get v-8 power out of this engine. It would just be nice to have a little more power while keeping the low end torque.

My thoughts are that, while you can get a little more power from a 2F (or nearly any engine), the power comes at a cost in reliabilty / durability. This is the main reason that the 2F is what it is... durability. Frankly, that is more important to me than pure power.

The 5 speed helps a lot - let you run at highway speeds closer to the torque sweet spot.
