I'm trying to de bling my 02 LX 470, and am considering blacking out all of the fake chrome. Fortunately, there is not too much, but there is the front grill, trim on side skirting, rear trim, rear badges. And maybe a little more I can't think of now. I have already powercoated wheels black.

Has anyone done this yet? If so, I would love to see some pictures. Thank you.

I don't think most of us here are willing to spend on the money on cosmetic details like that. It's easier to wheel your rig hard and let the rocks and tree branches that leave dings & scratches on the chrome and the dirt all over are enough to de-bling it.

club lexus is the place for that question. those guys are a lot more interested in cosmetics and will be more likely to have suggestions.

There is a guy currently wanting to do that to his black 470. ive thought about it but my color just wouldnt seem right.

Its easily doable, for that side trim just get 3M blackout tape, the grille you can do the same thing along with the tailgate. Or you can paint the grille and the tailgate peices and take your rear emblems off and replace with the black ones.

does anyone know which years had the black emblems? that's a good suggestion.

I will be doing Black Pearl D.I.Y. on my emblems. I can find the link on yotatech if you would like that gives step by step instructions. It uses your current emblems and uses Testors Black Pearl paint and a clear coat. They are 1800 series Testors spray cans. If you only want black, that is easier.
Now if I can only find my colors - 5 stores and counting.

A roll of mask and some rattlecan? :grinpimp:

No but I did de-gold my 80. And went to silver for all that was gold!

I called Cdan for the parts. About $50 etc.

If I were to mask and rattle can it, it would look like I did just that. I'd hate to ruin a $40k plus vehicle because I wanted to save a couple hundred bucks and do it myself. If I go through with this, I will have a client who does street rod paint jobs do it right, in his paint booth, with proper materials and preparation. I'm thinking I will try to match the finish that is on the windshield trim and B pillar trim, kind of a low matte/gloss (at least that is what it looks like to me).

Sewell Lexus sells the black pearl emblems on eBay all the time for $127.
