Took mine off yesterday! I am going to fashion up some sort of bikini top tomorrow.

I quite often see you around town, are you in the north end?

bore you go to the trouble of a full canvas top come drive my soft top 70... you might change your mind in a hurry.
cheers

hummm, how to answer this...
it takes about a half hour to remove.
it takes about an hour to install properly
it is like sitting inside a drum if doing over 90 k/h

it does keep you dry. it fits okay.

the red ragtop had its top removed 2 years ago and a bikini installed to replace it. (top is still in excellent condition and in storage but just too much of a pain to install)
the white ragtop has a brand new factory (2 years ago) soft top installed and IF it ever comes off will not be going back on as long as i own the truck.

the 73/74 series, i have made some bikinis for them and they work wonders. on and off in seconds. quiet. front seats dry no matter how hard it rains.
i have also made a half top for the midwheel base series and it too takes seconds to install and remove plus you can install a full hard top quicker than the soft top version.

and the hardtop is QUIET when installed.

just saying before he dumps a load of cash and time into a full soft top he might want to take one for a test spin and decided with experience under his belt.

Hey all, heres my little project. Cheers

Hi All:

Chui, cool rig!

What brand/model of tires are those?

Alan

My brother has just moved back to west Aus and tonight while catching up for a beer he mentioned he wants to take the roof of his middy
so did any middys or shortys ever come with rear doors that you can take the glass and frames of and be left with the lower half of the doors??
All the pics I see of factory soft top cruisers the rear doors window frames are painted black regaurdless of vehicle colour is the a indication for special doors that can be halved or something ?

Pretty rare. Some European MWB FRP top rigs and JDM SWB ragtops got them.

Probably easier to find used set and chop them down.

Thanks mate
so the best option I'm thinking now , as troopys are way more common in Aus than swb and mwb letalone factory soft top mwb and swb with the half doors if Aus even got em with the halving door option ,is to get some rear troopy doors and use them , the troopy doors are taller b ut that's only in the glass isn't it? And won't matter as it'll be getting chop chop

I'm pretty sure you are right.

cut em down, if you actually see a set of half doors you will understand what the difference is... not a hell of a lot.

okay
last sat i went to pick up some mand bends of the dude i bought my intercooler off
way spun out the night before asking about doors with black frames could be unboltable etc for the idea for my brother 73 and i see his badass bundera (swb prado with round headlights) ive never seen a soft top in flesh and guess what he had black door frames closer inspection i see rubber grommets and bolts
heres the pics even the front doors can be unbolted in half pretty cool mr toyota dunno why the 73s didnt get these doors??

did any of the soft top SWB come with a removable hard frp etc roof?
The roof on his rig looks close to a shortened 73 series one

not that i know of but i have seen a couple chopped down mid wheel base tops on the shorties...
that being said i have a 73 top showing up today that will be going onto the red ragtop. i can picture changing the windshield frame and "roll bar" to the mid wheel base versions to make it work properly...

Thanks for posting your pictures. I really like your tires chui.

cheers guys...
i sold my cruiser yesterday.. im still in shock and nursing my hangover -
main reason i sold it was the rust had really started to kick in, chassis had cracked, and transfer case was on the verge of collapse. Would cost me the range of $3000 to repair, and on top of it no spares here in Kenya. So I just sold it.
I will now look for a HJZ75/78 series or the 80 series VX or the Ex UN GX series. A friend recommended a land rover - I had another drink..
The tires - well thanks - we believe in buy Kenyan Be Kenyan -
Those tires are manufactured here locally - a chap had a Firestone factory - he bought it over and now produces Yana tires. those are 7.5 x 16 - in the 2 years I had them i never had a puncture or used the spare. they are all terrain but more so for mud.
they come at half the price of a AT / MT BF Goodrich or similar brand.
