I'm looking at an ARB front bumper and it looks like it's going to be awkward to mount a set of Hella 3000s or 4000s due to clearance. Hope I'm wrong, so anyone have input? I always see rectangular lights on them in ads, etc and they appear to fill the available space where the light tabs are. Thanks.

Doug - I asked this many moons ago (before I bought my 4000s) - I think Christo came back saying they fit, but need some drilling on the tabs and /or spacers IIRC

I just tried Hella 4000s on my ARB bull bar. I went to a local dealer, pulled them out of the box and placed them in the taps. They do fit...if you don't mind the top of them hitting the top bar. Because there wasn't the clearanced I had hoped for I went with Hella 500s. Not exactely want I wanted , but I'm happy with them. Saved a bunch of money as well. Also, I ordered a OEM switch from Christo and used that instead of the one Hella provided.

Oh, that's "tabs", "clearance", and "exactly". Gawd me speling is gotting bad.

I mounted LightForce 240 XGT's on my ARB and they are a full 10" around. I wouldn't even consider any other light. I did have to have a local welder add tabs in front of the tabs already on the bumber. After welding I cleaned the weld area and hit it with some POR15. I love the looks of the lights and so far I haven't gotten any rust in the weld area.

Yup can be done with minimal clearances. Have 9" PIAA mounted on my ARB front. You do have to drill tabs and shim with about 5/8" steel shims to make work and it'll give you about 1/64" clearance between the top of the light and the bar. Will post up pics when I get a chance, would now but god damn puter won't cooperate.

I have seen a bunch of folks ordering oem switches for ARB lockers, lights, ect.....just what does this accomplish? Are the switches that come with the accessory not good enough for ya? Or, do you just like spending more money than necessary?

It just looks better nutnick...........

Hella is coming out with 6" 4000's sometime soon, maybe that is an option... Unless you just like the 9" look

I have the 4000s on an ARB winch type bull bar. I drilled the tabs and shimmed the mounting bolt to make it work. I learned this info from the suggestions of others on this Board, but I can't remember from which thread.

I used the OEM switch from Cristo. It made life simple because I used the aux light harness from him as well to connect the 4000s to the OEM light circuit (my 4000s are wired to come on only when the high beams are on). I have also used the Hella switch supplied with their harness before and I thought the OEM switch was better suited for the application.

Excellent, so it can be done with a bit of fitting. Thanks. I've already got 3000s on one 80 and have a pair of 4000s for the 80 I'm picking up Monday. ARBs will be this spring - just wanted to be sure I'm not going to have to toss $400 worth of lights when I do it. I also like the idea of the OEM switches, and have them on the 93. But I must say that a $50 switch for the new rig kinda pains me considering the options. But, I'll look at various switches and see what is available. I'll need two (ouch) as I need one for the front fogs and one for the rear.

Regards,

Doug

PS - the OEM fog switches don't have an indicator light, do they?

negative.

Doug,

There is an OEM fog lamp switch from a Camry (I think...) that has an indicator and is a perfect fit in your 97's dash. It's about $15 if I remember correctly. It has an amber lamp instead of a green lamp and the texture is just a tiny bit different from Land Cruiser switches but hardly noticeable. There were several pics in the archives but post back if you can't find them as they may have been lost in one of the forum upgrades.

Mine does....?

What I was thinking is that it doesn't have a bright light like the camry style switch. Were you thinking of the backlighting?

Cheers, Hugh

Oooh. Great tip. That's the ticket. Wonder if I can alter the indicator lamp to make one red for the rear fog lamps, and another blue for the rear facing roof lamp that's going on as well. I'll report back - that's a great tip/reminder Beo. More Cdan stuff...

Ok finally got access to my work computer. Here is what the PIAA's look like on my ARB.
