Anyone?? The legendary, super high speed 8274 deserves to be on a 100. . .

Sure there is cutting involved, anyone done it?

I have a Warn 8274 on my FJ40. IMO it is a great high speed winch but better suited for lighter vehicles like the 40. It is rated at 8,000lbs. I think you want at least a 9,500lb winch minimum on a 100. I'm looking at winches right now and want something at least 10,000lbs for mine.

I agree in a way. But at the same time a lot of guys are running m8000 in the arb combo bar. For medium use, this may be all you need, especially with a snatch block and thicker cable. After witnessing the speed and pull of the 8274 a couple week sago, i was just wondering if it were possible; even though not listed as a winch for the combo bar. Yes an m1200, is ideal for a heavy use 100, but it is very heavy and slow. Just feeling out the difficulty here.

The M12000 won't be too, too heavy if you remove the ~35lbs of 3/8" 125' cable on there and replace with synthetic line.

your 1200 is in the blueberry right? In all your genius (i am being totally serious) what do you think about the 8274 in a heavy 100 with medium use, and the occasional deep stuck in red clay. and once again, is it possible to put in the ARB combo bar?

Why get the 8274 for 2x the cost when the M8 has the same load rating, fits without modding, and is dirt cheap? Hell, I've been thinking about the Titan 12k, it's cheaper and doesn't weigh as much as the M12.

this is the new warn vr12, there is a whole thread about them and one of the guys from warn even chimed in to settle down the people who were calling the vr line a "cheap" product that will break

the vr12 is smaller than the 9.5xp and weights 2 lbs less...would weigh even less with a synthetic line and costs just under $700, slightly higher than an M8...I was going with the titan 12k winch this coming winter(my atv's get stuck a lot and the 100 is the recovery vehicle lol) but having warn's warranty is a plus for me

:steer:

here is what I wrote when I first saw it in the recovery forum:

Woah this VR series is looking like a good choice for my TJM bumper! With the limited space that it has currently hahah The previous owner said that the largest winch that will fit is the 9.5xp, so ever since then I have been shopping for a winch that is less than 22.7"x6.3"x7.7"...

the 12k VR winch is 21.83"x6.3"x6.97", which makes it one of the smaller 12k winches out there because I have seen none in this compact size?

Is the 9.5xp really bigger than the 12k VR? It would also help if we could get the weight of the actual VR12 compared to the 9.5xp because my truck uses torsion bars, not sure if it can handle it:D

EDIT: warn 9.5xp(87 lbs) compared to vr12000(89 lbs)

I may have to get this next time there is a promo!

because the 8274 is twice the winch of the m8000. I'll take worm gears over planetary gears any day.

X2 ... and because I have an 8274-50 with 125' of synthetic line sitting in my storage unit waiting to be put to use ... the last use it got was almost 6 hours of continuous use at Windrock pulling a three wheeled Jeep YY up the mountain about 5 years ago. Once you have one of these expensive babys, you keep the thing ...

Mine is 30 years old and pulled my brokedown jeeps all over grey rock orv for years. :steer:

Regarding the rating of the 8274. Our Sheriff's Dept. had one on an F-350 crewcab with a Gemtop canopy for many years. It was our search and rescue truck. The 8274 never failed to extract us from whatever muck we managed to get into. Our new truck (F350 crew diesel) has a 12,000 lb. Warn - nice, but no 8274. The 150' of cable and fast line speed are cool.

My issued SAR vehicle is a '03 Wrangler with an 8274 up front. Both rigs are equipped with MasterPull XP lines.
