Anyone ever see a soft top like this before?

I think it may be a Bestop (based on the channel mounting type), but the color/style is like nothing I've ever seen.

It is like a flecked silver and black color and has a shiny finish. The inside is black.

I'm almost positive this is for an FJ40 based on the width and length and also the detail around the door opening that matches a 40's door shape:

I'm sure this top is from the 70's (and we all know what funky things came out of the 70's - me included)! I have visions of disco balls and bell bottoms.....

The top doesn't look like it has ever been used (maybe they thought it was too....um....different to actually put on their rig).

Of course, being me, I'm definitely throwing this thing on my 40! Now, just gotta find the bows, etc.

Interesting top...it does have the shape of a bestop...but...very flashy

maybe pete had this made for show truck? or display truck?

or maybe somebody talked him out of putting it on any truck...dont know why somebody would do that however

Yeah, I'm thinking it must have been a custom top....no way they'd mass produce something like this.

I just gotta see what it looks like on a truck, though! Gotta be worth a few laughs. Maybe I'll sport it for the swapmeet in Cherry Valley on 6/26!

Unfortunately, Pete passed away last June (before I got to meet him....).

On a more serious note....

i was looking thru some con-ferr pics and noticed that they were selling kayline and dualmatic tops.

it could have been even a present from one of them (like a top sales present....that would make it The Silver Top Award )...or....for use at SEMA shows.....or even ......when Wynn's International, Inc who already owned Dualmatic merged the two companies Bestop and Dualmatic in 1982 it could have been a gift when they formed Wynn's Automotive Products, Inc?

or a top for their silver 25th anniversary? 1976? puts it in the time frame of chikka boomboom 70's

dont really know....


a pic of the top on a truck or some mention of it will probably surface one of these years...need to keep a look out
