Has anybody ever done a motor swap? At SEMA they had a prototype of a supercharged V8 truck version (www.trdusa.com). I'm just curious if anyone else, aside from TRD--- has tried this on a personal attempt. I was thinking the Tundra Iforce V8 would be nice. I think it would get better gas mileage and have a ton more power than the stock sixer. Any ideas? Hints? Experiences? Pictures! :bounce:

Thanks!

Do it......

THe FJ Cruiser gets bad gas mileage because of it's lack of aerodynamics, not because the engine is under powered...

IIRC the 4.0 v6 actually makes more TORQUE than the V8 does. And TORQUE is what you want for pushing around a large heavy vehicle.
So I don't think putting in a V8 is worth while.

If you are after more power, URD makes a supercharger kit for it.
And I am sure you can find a Turbo kit for it.

Ahhhhhh... V8 power

Yeah, those 2 extra pistons and all those extra ponies...
wait a minute, there aren't that many extra ponies, any way

Besides, ponies help you tow trailers and move kids quickly from one soccer field to the next in high style and fashion, but it's torque that pushes heavier-than-air bodies over rocks and through mud. Particularly if all of that torque is available before your foot has moved from the brake to the gas pedal (remember the 2Fs and 3FEs).

The V6 they stuffed into the Tacos and, now, the FJ is a near perfect compromise. Good road manners, enough power to pull a reasonable load over the road, something that approaches decent gas mileage (our V8 Landcruiser gets 14-16 MPG, the FJ62 10-13 MPG), and low end grunt for offroad playtime.

Now, a diesel..... Wouldn't THAT be something!

Can anyone say 5.7L V8 / 6-Spd Manual Tranny? That would be a blast.

I would go for a turbo diesel 6...and live happily ever after.
