I currently have the factory tinted bronze glass on my 2000 LX.
I'd like to get rid of the bronze color or at least minimize it.

Also the factory level of darkness is too bright compared to what I had on my tinted 80.

Has anyone been able to reduce the bronze color by adding tint of a different shade? If so, what did you go with?

thanks

if you put 15% regular charcoal/grey tint over the back glass it looks pretty normal, which brings it down to around 5% however from the outside it will still be mirrored.

Awesome, thank you loud.
I had 5% on the LC on all glass ('cept w/s, of course) and loved it.
Was only ticketed once in 16 years for the front doors.

Do you know the % difference b/w the front and rear factory glass...just trying to estimate what will be needed for the front doors to match

You can never de-bronze it. I have super dark limo tint (well almost limo tint) on all the rear windows and it still has a goldish hue to it in sunlight. It depends on the angle you look at it from. This is the reason there are 7000 post threads on finding the exact match to the bronze tint so that when you lay a shade of dark tint over it, everything at least matches up.

Here is a good thread on the matter:

This. In retrospect I'd do 10% all the way around instead of 15%. Still happy with the results though.

Thanks for the info guys.

I am going to get the state inspection renewed before I have the tint added next week, to avoid any tint nazi grief this year.

Don't really care too much if the fronts don't match the rears perfectly, just want to diminish the bronze as much as possible and add privacy/shade.

Anyone had success adding tint to the exterior of the glass instead of the interior?
It might be a problem for the rear qtrs since the edge would be exposed, not to mention getting easily scratched. But it seems like it would solve the bronze color issue. And my LX will be garaged when not in use, so it wouldn't be exposed to the elements too much.

I had a buddy that had a Montero with exterior film on the front windows, wasn't terrible but there were some fine swirls from automatic car washes.

Exterior film has always ended up looking like garbage in my experience. It starts out looking fine but between weather, dirt, dust, rocks, and car washes grinding everything into it, the longevity just isn't high enough to be worth it. Go to a reputable tint shop that uses a good film like Llumar, and you'll end up a happy camper. The bronze wont be visible, the back windows will just look mirrored in direct sunlight. Not a bad thing for heat rejection, IMO.

Thanks Fuzz, that's encouraging.
I'll post some before and after pics when it's all said and done.

Sure thing. Here's a couple of before/afters on mine for your reference.

This is Llumar 15% film. Pretty happy with it so far, but my truck is black so it's always a freakin sauna in the day, tint or no tint. I need to get the windsheild done too.

i got 15% on my front two and the 5% percent for the rest and it looks great and dark

yo fuzz, you ever going to lift your front end? :flipoff2:

Yeah, when I get a pay raise. :flipoff2:

Trust me, it bugs the everlovin sh*t out of me every time I look at the super stinkbug I have going on...even after reindexing.

I definatley need to go darker, but didnt know you could put one layer over the other?

You can double up tint film, however the factory tint is apart of the actual glass.

Knowing how the trucks are spec'd out by you Gunney, I bet your windows were clear from factory and then tinted aftermarket. Considering every SUV in that picture has clear glass meanwhile in the US we get all those trucks with factory privacy glass.
