Anyone cut off the resonator?

I have removed all that extraneous plastic garbage from my truck (read: bumper ends, flares, etc.) and bobbed the rear frame. I have a decent departure angle now, but for one thing. The exhaust tip and resonator hangs way too low, and is going to get torn off if I don't cut it off voluntarily. My only concern is sound- I like the quiet exhaust, and I don't want it to sound even remotely like a 'ricer'. I had a break in my exhaust on a 4 cylinder Nissan just in front of the similar resonator, and it sounded like crap. I don't know what the LC's sound like without the resonator. Anyone ever cut theirs off? If so, what was your impression of the sound level?

If I have to, I'll wait until I can cut it off and relocate it further up the pipe, but every time I see the darn thing hangin' down I get the urge to whip out a Sawsall.

it is louder it whistles alot like a mini tubo (i hated it) if you cut it off before the mount the exhaust will rattle as well

i cut mine off and it didnt whistle it actually didnt change much maybe a little louder but not much.

Cut mine off last week.

The exhaust does have more of a whistling tone as opposed to the lower, deep tone with the resonator. About a year ago i ran the truck for a few months without it, then replaced it.

My first impression, driving with the resonator back on, was that it seemed alot louder actually.

So far, in the last week, with the resonator off again, it hasnt bothered me one bit.

Yes I too did not see much since in moving the spare and gaining all this clearance and departure angle only to leve that tailpipe running under the bumper. I had mine cut of when they put the rear bumper on. Some whistling but not bad not much differant to me.

I guess the Sawsall feeds tonight!

I already have an exhaust mount further back as the stock mount tore off.

It might be good idea to carry a CO detector in your truck for a while.

Carbon Monoxide poisoning is a nasty thing.

FJ60Guy did this to his wife's 80 and it is definitely not noticable unless you are REALLY trying to hear it.

On the CO: My >1-year-old kid is kind of obnoxios when driving, and I've heard the CO will make them tired, this might be a good thing.

I'll debate that...Mine whistled like a sombiotch.....it to me was a PITA. It had a tone that was high pitch and dang annoying. Replaced the muffler, rerouted the pipes and the whistle is gone. I know of a few that had the whistle and found it lame.....your results may vary.....

I beat the piss outta mine on the rocks, then cut it off. It whistled pretty bad. I took that opportunity to redo my exhaust.
2-1/2" tube from the cats back with a 40 series flowmaster, HI flow cats. And yes it sounds a little like a ricer, but it don't look like one. I have a noticeable power increase, no MPG increase.

Mine will be coming off as soon as I get a rear bumper (hopefully within the month). Has anyone done this on the 4 liter and does it have the same whistleing effect.

No whistle here. A lil bit louder even with that section of exhaust replaced with new pipe . Tucked up in there out of the way.....THIS TIME :D

Are you refering to the 3FE'd 91-92's (per your sig)?
We do not have the resonator like the 93-97's.
But yes, a new hi-flowcat with 2.5" pipe to a new hi-flow muffler while staying in the stock routing is nice. Increase power? a little but I think my original was clogged. Increase MPG? couldn't tell...

I plan on (eventually) replacing the exhaust from in front of the cat back, relocating the cat somewhere less vulnerable. That's just not in the budget at the moment. If I hack the exhaust and don't like the result, I'll be forced to replace it sooner. Of course if I rip it off and damage the cats or the manifold, I'll really be pissed at myself.

I'll be darned I thought there was one back there for some reason. Must have been seeing things. Time to get out the sawzall and go to town I've already hit my exhaust to many times even got a rock stuck in it last time I was at Attica.

 Every 91-92 I've seen are nicely tucked away. When a local shop did mine I told them to tuck it up even more. They did a good job at it as the tailpipe sits as level as the bumper and the exit hole is cut parallel to the ground so that when I sit on the bumper the pipe barely touches.
