Haven't tried it yet, but I'm looking at either the Hollandia 400 (which is a fabric top) or a Hollandia 740 (which is an inbuilt glass top).

Pricing is ~$1,250 in California installed.

The issue(s) you're going to run into are the speakers in the roof and the rack, which may or may not impede opening whichever one you're looking at.

Webasto is the company that supplies the ones I'm looking for, you can check out the various options HERE.

Looks good

The Webasto (built-in version) looks good and there are several dealers in my area. I'll pay them a visit to see if it's something they can do.
Thanks

Call Classic Soft Trim in your area. They will be fair and have a lifetime warranty. These are the folks that do the OEM leather installs. If you want leather they can do both.

Best,

Shane

the cheaper glass popout kind would be doable imho

I think they're all (the pop-out, fabric and sliding glass versions) doable, but the questions that need to be addressed are how much square footage of daylight are you going to let in, and how much (if any) of the inside ceiling are you going to lose headroom-wise for the internal mechanics of the top?

I've done one Webasco/Hollandia unit in a Honda Element, and have seen TWO units installed on the same vehicle (in addition to the oddly-placed Honda factory unit). I'm happy with the quality of the unit(s), but it's going to be the installer that makes the thing not leak.

I have also been looking for local installer. I have not been able to get a Toyota Tech to identify for me where the overhead speakers actually are so I can estimate how large an area is available. Also a bit worried that there may be restrictions (other than the optional roof rack) above the cargo area. I can't wheel in the summer desert without SOME ventilation in the back :)

From the manuals, literature and old fashioned listening, I'm pretty sure (WAG) that they're over the hinge in the rear seat where it folds forward and under the first 'rib' on the roof, just about centered over the centerline of the front seats.

Of course, the only way to know for sure requires disassembly...

If anyone has take a peak UNDERNEATH the headliner, let us know if the overhead speakers can be easily re-located so a good-sized sun roof will fit.

Speakers

I have the measurements you need; I just replaced the sound system in my FJ this weekend (Deck, Speakers, AMP & SUB). I considered replacing the speaker mounted in the headliner but I decided against because it's a pain in the a55 to remove the headliner...

You can (easily) spot the speakers by turning up the volume about half way and putting your ear to a spot between the doors and the dome light. It's easy to spot. Anyway, using the center of the dome light as a point of reference, the speakers are 4.5" inches forward and 11.5" to the side (left or right).

I'd have no problem tossing the speakers if that's all that stood between me and a new sunroof.

Side Note: According to the owners Manual, there are also speakers mounted (speaker mounts) in the rear of the FJ, also in the headliner as an option if you got the premium audio package.
