My dealer sent me a flyer saying they are looking for used LC's and would do a trade for a 2018 for good terms. What's the going discount everyone is getting nowadays?

Side note:
They aren’t really “looking for used LCs.”

They just want to sell you a new one. :)

I’ve received those flyers fairly frequently on various vehicles.
Dealers nail ya on trade-ins because psychologically, buyers are more likely to pay more for the new car and take less for the used during the transaction. It’s a win win—for them and has nothing to do with used LCs in particular.

I get these all time even for vehicles I no longer own. It’s a sales tactic to get you in the door. I’ve even had someone from Don McGill text and call me.

Looks like a couple people beat me. Ha!

Just have to call around and search for the best price. Given the resale demand for late model LC and LXs, better to sell your vehicle yourself for maximum resale unless you get a very good trade in value. The dealer discount varies a good amount from dealer to dealer. Search for the major dealer groups in your area.

You can get them for 10k off. I paid 32800+ tax with a 2018 4 runner trd Pro on trade.

I just got one and leveraged Car Buying Services from USAA, NFCU, and Costco. Then I just pit the dealers against each other and wound up with the vehicle for about $200 over invoice. It is a PITA to field all their calls and pit them against each other, but worth it IMO. YMMV.

Yesterday evening I was offered $12,400 off, plus 5- rock warriors off the window of $88,210.

It was a deal breaker as they wouldn't throw in the 285/75/17 BFGs. The "sales manager" said no one puts this combination on a luxury SUV... I told him he was an idiot and that this is the way it should have come from the factory (or similar). Then he kept talking about the factory tires like they were some HIGH PERFORMANCE tire that were spec matched for the cruiser...... I showed him a few MUD threads and he just said there's no money in it for them at this deal... I asked him if he knew anything about cruisers.. "Oh yes, that's why I'm the sales manager".. I said well come walk me through everything on the vehicle... He did not accept the challenge and referred me to the salesperson that didn't even know how to put it into 4WD for Christ sakes...

I asked who else is going to walk in here for a 88K vehicle with cash and doesn't need multiple financiers, without a trade in and dual insurance riders to get this deal done.. OH yeah... that's exactly what you want so you can play your hidden numbers games... SEE YA!.. he followed me out the door saying "sir please come back in and lets look at the numbers again... I'm sure we can get this deal done.." I said not today your not.

That prick has called me 6 times today and they're closed... Reminds me of a sales manager at Miller Toyota in Salt Lake. If I decide to get a 200 I'll run down to Toyota of San??? (pick the one) and buy.

I'm the worst car buyer in the world and the worst nightmare for a dealership.

you should let him know that the $12,400 off and BFGs are no longer good enough because he wasted your time...now it is $13k off plus the BFGs, Tomorrow it is $13.5k plus the BFGs. He'll break.

A friend just recently bought one for $82k but he went local and didn't shop it too hard. Seems like there are some out there in the $76k range as mentioned above and through some research I have been doing. I'm personally note sure whether to drop the $77k on a brand new or keep searching for a low mileage 17 in the high 60 low 70 range.

I get those flyers all the time for vehicles that have been sold years ago.

Picked up my ‘18 for $76500 in January and that was with minimal negotiations. Nice to be back in a Cruiser.

If you make that San ??? Diego... Go to Toyota if El Cajon.

Service guy named Simo has helped me since 2002... Great guy and he has proved his honesty over and over.

Also... The OWNER is a huge Cruiser fan. Good guy as well.

But back to your comments... Yes! I am continually AMAZED how utterly unfamiliar most car salesmen are with their very own products. Even after what I would consider MILD research...I always end up knowing way more than the salesmen do.

One would think when it’s their INCOME...they make at least a little effort to learn about what they are selling-if nothing else than to more capably talk customers into buying. But amazingly few do. Seems bizarre to me.

I remember buying my first car the summer of 1987. I had just gotten my hardship license in Texas (age 15) and had money burning a hole in my pocket. I had worked for 3 years to save up for a 1987 Buick Grand National. I remember going with my dad and talking with the salesman for what seemed like for hours. He went over ever button, knob, adjustment, AC, heater, tires, motor, turbo, oil, rpms... on and on.... AND ON.... He was an older man and knew this monster like the back of his hand. My dad bought Caddys and GMC trucks from him for years. I told dad years later if that guy ever died he'd never be able to buy another car.

Sticker was 16811.00 and I paid 15600.00 cash. (I HAD TO BORROW 150$ FROM MY DAD AND STILL TO THIS DAY.... "IF IT WEREN'T FOR ME YOU'D NEVER GOTTEN THAT RACECAR..... "

That set the tone for me on what I expected from a car salesman, hell any salesman for that matter. I expected a lower price for cash and expected the complete rundown on the vehicle. Boy times change.

They went from salesmen to order takers.

No dealer wants a cash purchase, they would much rather you finance. Often, they will take a losing deal on the front end (price of the vehicle) if they can make money on the back end (finance). You may be able to get more discounts if you agree to finance (and just pay it off the 1st month, so you will have paid 0 finance charges/interest).

Yup. Early in the process, the sales critter will usually ask some type of qualifying question like “will you be leasing or financing the vehicle?” I usually respond with “let’s agree on a price first and then we’ll discuss financing.” It is only after I’ve beaten them down on the price that I tell them I’m paying in cash. Then they send me to the F&I guy where I say “no” to everything he wants to sell me.

I guess? I knew the owner of a Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler chain, IIRC 26 locations, he said they made more money the sooner the car came off the transport truck. He would take cash and tell me when a load of trucks was coming in. Sounds like it depends on their finance structure with the manufacturer. He said very few dealerships own their vehicles, they are all incentive driven contracts and the manufacturer got paid first when a car sold. He said he had an extra 7.2% to "wiggle" on a new arrival than one that had been on the lot for say 120 days with the minimum of 1.?% I can't remember that figure. Also, if a vehicle sold in the first 10 days of receipt he got a bonus % as well. He didn't care what the payment was, he just wanted the least amount holdback from the mfg and their lender and that was to move the vehicle as fast as possible.

Yes, credit is the American way, we all use it, including me. But I try to never use it on a car purchase. If I do I certainly don't use "their" lenders.

Like I said I'm a nightmare when buying a car..
