Got the itch for a trailer and it is gonna have to be scratched sooner or later. Anyone gone the government liquidation route? If so how painful was it? I have one or two local sources as well but they can be hit or miss.

Probably something to ask over on Steel Soldiers.. my guess is a bunch of guys over there have done it.

Not done it myself, but have read lots of posts from those who have. Buying is relatively straightforward. Once purchased, you have to wait for the end user certification, which can take some time (a month is not unusual.)

Once you get your paperwork together, then you can contact the pickup point to confirm hours, getting on post, etc. Usually, it's up to you to get it in roadable condition and the listing may give some guidance. Be prepared for just about anything.

I'm pretty sure you need proof of insurance and some sort of registration to get it out the front gate. Also, you need to remember that you must have insurance and suitable ID to get onbase.

Hi guys. I heard you were asking about us. Let me know if there are any questions, but greentruck pretty much hit all the nails on the head. The only piece of new info is that the End Use Certificate [EUC] is only required for a few items now. The majority of trailers are not restricted.

surplusrobyn,
Thanks for the updated info. Good to see some rationalization on the EUC. It's not like you're gonna invade anyone with a trailer. You'd need a prime mover, too.:hillbilly:

It's one of those things where you can save a ton of $$ or get in trouble. From what I read, you have to get your purchase off the lot within a short period of time, whether it's roadworthy or not. So sight unseen may not be the safest way to go.

Of course, it's partly the risk that keeps the prices very low.

I've bought five different trailers from GL. $160 to $350 each, but I had to travel to get them. Getting titles can be a pain and adds expense. They work with you fairly well, if you have a problem getting your purchase off the lot, in time. I try to buy two at a time, so it cuts down the travel expenses.

Awesome seeing someone directly involved chime in. Would love to see you start a thread going over some of the details in general on buying and such. You have done nothing but fan the flames of desire to buy as well! Thx for the post and keep that membership on mud active!

I bought an M416 ten years ago. Pretty straightforward, just follow all the rules they post...

Thank you for the kind words. I wasn't sure if my post would go through! I'm afraid there are a few forums that have said we cannot participate. Every forum has different regs regarding businesses. We are not spammers though, and I'm happy to answer any questions you may have to the best of my ability.

You can check with Woody to see what the official answer is, but it would seem that if you have a presence here where you answer questions without trying to sell anything it would be allowed. Nice to see you here, by the way!

I purchased a trailer. Picking up was a bit frustrating due to miscommunication. Had no problem getting on and off base. You will probably have to buy a Title if you ever plan on registering it.

I bought an f350 7.3l crew cab and ended up selling it after driving it for about two years. I've also bought three trailers. It is really easy. Don't forget to add the 10 % premium. Plan to spend an hour or two on the base. Make sure you bring all your paperwork with you including your drivers license and your insurance.

Roger that. Item I was eyeing went for waaaaay more than I expected and was willing to pay. Good to hear that you have had positive experiences.

Buying a vehicle is a bigger crap shoot, but now you buy them from GovPlanet and they check them over better before selling. Not fixing, just reporting the big and obvious things. I bought a deuce from MI. and drove it back to MO. With vehicles you really should plan on having it trailered back home.
