My first dog got into a porc-o-pine out in the middle of nowhere. SHe came back looking pretty bummed. This was before everyone had a Leatherman. She let me roll her on her back and sit on her while I extracted or pushed the quills through by hand. Afterward she was a little dazed. There was a stream nearby and she went for a quick swim and seemed to feel better after that.
That was a major PITA!
I considered Adolph. Some folks didn't like it

Rocker(my dog) didn't go out with the injection, which they are supposed to do and the gas normally isn't used until about 30 minutes into the surgery. Since he didn't go out, they gave him the gas to put him out and Rocker inhaled too much to quick(nervous quick breaths).
At least that's what the vet told me.
Got him back today from the 2nd attempt. All went well and he is doing great. The only reason I took him back for a 2nd try was the confidence and change in procedure that the vet told me would happen. I also told him that if Rocker didn't go out with the injection this time, to just reverse it and forget it. All went according to plan though.

When they screw up and the dog dies (don't counteract the drug fast enough) they say it was "unforseen complications". Or "a bad reaction.."
One of my highschool jobs was at a vet's office. Saw that fxxxer do it a couple of times. Most of the time it was because he was not paying attention.

I understand what you're saying. He's either very good at making excuses or it happened as he said and Rocker just didn't go out like he should have. I tend to believe him, but either way, I'm just happy my damn dog is alive and well.
He did do the right thing by going ahead and counteracting the drug instead of trying to push through with the surgery. From what I understand, a lot of times a vet will go ahead with the surgery and they usually begin breathing again after the gas wears off some. But sometimes they die.
I don't think it had anything to do with him not paying attention. He said he was monitoring Rocker the whole time while the girls did the prepping. I don't think he straight up lied to me.
Like I said though, I'm just happy he's alive and well. And you can bet that this vet won't screw up one of my animals again.
That dog is almost as cute as mine...
