I have a post in the parts forum asking for these. need some for a 79 and I'm referring to the left and right strap that goes under the fuel tank guard and holds the tank up.

SOR has some but $70 for a piece of tin seems ridiculous and their service up until now leaves a little to desire for me.

Anywho, has anybody ever ran across something similiar for another model or know of something that can easily be modded to work?

Thanks.

Thanks John,

I've made the mounts, I just need the straps. Kind of didn't want to skimp or try something that ended up with the tank flopping off and me running over it. Plus I'm restoring it it and I want it to look pretty close to stock. Actually now I have an idea. If I can find some banding, fab up a little angle piece to weld on one end. Also double the band around the rounded end that takes a bolt through it perpendicular, shouldn't be too bad.

Thanks.

alright i'm signed in on my name now...

I used a thinner gauge stainless steel sheet metal cut into 1" wide strips and i just bent it on the press and it works great and looks good and i don't have to paint it because its SS 317

Nice choice of SS. Did you pick 317 because it has superior corrosion resistance compared to 316, especially when exposed to seawater?

straps

Go to your local hardware store or building supply. Look for the display that holds the 4 foot pieces of angle iron, round stock, metal strips and most important galvanized bands of strapping material about 1 1/2 to 2 inches wide that has lots of holes but who cares. I replaced one strap and am going to do both as am in the process of a frame off reconditioning not restore. These should never rust therefore will last forever. Just copy the one you are replacing and leave enough material to double up the ends. Don't even have to drill holes. Use an old bolt and hammer bend the strap around it for the terminal end and bend then bolt the running end, good to go.
